Sir tell me one thing, if the surface tension is acting on the surface of the liquid for air or other liquid, then the direction of that force(surface tension) should be outwards(opposite of the center of droplet). But here's the direction of that surface tension is towards the other half of that droplet. Why?

Sir Please reply, Sir, We say that at the surface of the water, the water molecules experience two kinds of forces, which are *adhesive force* ( due to particles above the water surface) And *cohesive force* ( due to water molecules of surface below) Here sir, we say that due to *greater force of cohesive* than adhesive, the surface water molecules experience some *net downward/inward pull*..and here does this Net Cohesive inward force pull down the surface water molecules inside of the liquid ( to the bottom)?. Or it doesn't pull down?.🙏

Let us understand this way - As shown water is filled in the vessel. The water level can be seen as the membrane between air and water, i.e., upper side has air and lower side has water. Now, there will be cohesive forces in between water-water molecules (like molecules). Whereas, for air-water molecules (unlike molecules), there will be adhesion. As water-water molecule forces are greater and acting below the water level, we can say that water level feels constant downward force. Hence, remains in tension and that's the surface (water level) tension. Hope this helps! Thanks, Team EL

@@EducationLessons sir that means, the surface water molecules are not getting pulled down to the bottom of the vessel by this net cohesive force?. if yes sir why? Because sir they are experiencing *net* cohesive downward force. 🙏🙏. Please sir reply

Yes.. it's not exactly that we are pulling towards the downside of the vessel. It's like water surface level has water molecules, and these molecules are getting attracted towards the adjacent water molecules, just below the surface.. Remember that, water molecules feels attraction forces in all direction. As water level is the extreme end of water, we get other water molecules below this level only. So, the resultant attraction force direction will be downside, generating tension force. Hope u got this. Thanks, Team EL.

@@EducationLessons so sir, can we say in this way, that the surface water molecules are attracted by only the the 2nd layer of water molecules i.e only just below the water surface .( Let's assume the water surface to be 1st layer).🙏 sir I mean, these surface water molecules are not attracted by the bottom side of the water molecules, but attracted only by the 2nd layer of the water molecules. Please reply sir.🙏

From the second level, water molecules are surrounded by water molecules from all sides. As, you move downwards, water molecules are attracted by eachother in all directions, making resultant as 0.

A pull type force exerted on any object is the tensile force For example, if we pull the small piece of rope from both the ends, then the force exerted on the rope will be tensile force.
