I couldn't stop laughing when Steve Martin pulled out that microphone. I'm surprised the cast kept a straight face and sang their lines.

He's always great with not cracking up during his skits, etc. Back in early '70s his first skits included opening for music acts at Doug Weston's Troubadour in West Hollywood CA. He came on stage with a prop "arrow through his head" and played a banjo. Not complicated but we laughed at his goofiness!!

I hate to admit it. Not only do I remember it, I wore it too. Frosted and matte along with "That Girl Marlo Thomas"false eyelashes, Maybellines blooming colors Sapphire blue eyeshadow and heavy cat tail black eyeliner (it's called wings now) with a big bouffant hairdo. Surprised I still have hair with all the ratting, back combing, teasing and Aqua net hair spray I used lol. A mini skirt, turtle neck sweater and white go go boots to boot. The best days ever ❤️ that boyfriend had a 1967 cameo. Don't know what ever happened to him or his car. What fun memories. Do you remember the faint pale blue lipstick too?

@@mommyquackquack1825 Yes, I do remember the faint blue lipstick! I was only a little girl of about 9, but my older sister wore the white lipstick. Go-go boots, mini skirts, bouffant hair, the works! I used to watch That Girl; Marlo Thomas entranced me. Remember the love beads and bead curtains? Remember Dippity-do?

Sure do. Had some of the hippi stuff too like long vests with fringe, elephant ear pants, Bell bottoms, love/peace beads, head bands worn around your forehead. The unfortunate thing during that time was Vietnam, the war and of course the drugs. Too many young friends died. Lava lamps, black lights, glow in the dark posters, Did your sister use the empty frozen concentrated orange juice cans and a mixture of dippity do with sugar to roll up her hair? How about an iron to straighten it no flat irons back than. Cool man, It was a gas!

The fringe was a great touch. One girl who did a lot of dancing always wore fringed dresses and I THINK a fringed swimsuit in those Beach movies. And the tan - platinum hair - white lipstick combo even showed up in a Star Trek episode ("The Apple"), so it was definitely iconic.

Thats what music theatre is still doing, globally, with its only recent hiatus being covid. This generation of actors and comics knew how to act, sing, and dance. The trade of performing has lost the necessity of being trained in all three disciplines with the advent of big films and digital platforms
@warrenjoseph76

@@cherylannwhittington9458 yes true. But I guess why I pointed this out is because a Broadway show would have weeks (months? I don’t know) of rehearsals and this was a weekly live show. So I can’t say for sure how much rehearsal time they would have had but it’s truly impressive how well such a long skit went for a weekly live tv show

It's hilarious I loved the Carol Burnett show and the beach movies they we're chessey but I loved them. I think that's why Carol Burnett show was so great her love and knowledge of movies, TV , Musicals was amazing. And how she recreated them in skits was brilliant. The cast was great and the guest stars we're always the best talent around in those days. They always looked like it was more fun than work . They made it fun to watch and always left you laughing. They truly don't make show's like that anymore and I really don't think they could ever duplicate it today . And I'm glad they don't even try .
