Surfing The Line | Inside the World of Hill Climb Racing

To mark the 2021 British National Hill Climb championships, HUNT is proud to present Surfing The Line, a film by Maciek Tomiczek.
"When I was planning the film, I mainly wanted to find out why people put themselves through this. With every race I saw, I understood more the idea behind it. The atmosphere is really unique, and the community is so welcoming. Talking to the riders was also very inspiring. What was particularly interesting was how different all the riders are yet they all have that one thing in common. They all love hills!"
Join us in celebrating this most wonderful of cycling disciplines, and perhaps the purest form of bike racing, where riders battle against gravity and the clock.

The pacing, the threshold efforts, the pain management during, the all-engulfing pain at the end: these are all the things that Hour Record riders always talk about! (Although the Hill Climb lasts 'only' 3 to 10 minutes, and there's a finish line).

Wow, Darryl Webster. Had the potential to be a multiple grand tour winner without doubt. Excellent film. I grew up next door but one to Jeff Williams so have been obsessed with hill climbing since i got my first road bike at 12 and riding out to watch the Tour of the Peak on Snake Pass far too many moons ago.

What a beautiful video. I had an entry for Streatley in Oct 20 but was unable to travel to race, because COVID. Great to see Oxford's local hero Tevjan feature so thoughtfully.

The most shocking thing about this video is the scene where the kids are playing on the bed and there is a guitar hanging above the radiator. I winced.

Hit some very short 14% gradients with loaded bags into a 20mph headwind this evening, thankfully they were very short but a few 7-10% slopes chucked in and my 100kg, oh and wrong side of 50, it wasas tough a ride as some of the longer slopes of the Alps BITD. But these guys and gals are absolutely hammering it up silly steep stuff and utterly spent at the end, I could get up but my time would be into another calendar day.lol Do this when you are young is my advice!
