In this week's episode of Surf Simply's Question Time series, Coaching Director Harry Knight explains the difference between a surfboard's planing lift and buoyancy, and how volume is just one portion of the forces involved in surfing a wave.
Thank you to everyone who submitted questions. If you have a question for Harry, write it in the comments and we will answer as many of them as we can in future episodes.

Original questions:
Is board volume or planing area more important when transitioning from floating to planing? Phill Halloran
While we are standing and surfing the board, i totally agree with what you are saying. But if we are paddling it's a different thing i believe. The density of our bodies is similar to the density of water and if we use our techniques to swim we float at the surface. If we now have a surfboard to paddle on, the lightest foam can provide an extra 30% force to move us out the water, doesn't it? Christian Fluchtmann
