Hey all! I have the hypnobirthing courses and I practice everyday - I am so excited and looking forward to my birthing time. Thank you for these videos - When I was practicing breathing I was concentrating on breathing as much oxygen into my stomach as I could and I was doing it to fast so I was starting to get dizzy. In your example, she is still doing this calmly and to a count of 10. This is great - no more dizziness. I love that you are comparing it to deep sea diving as this will give me something to concentrate on while breathing through the surge / contraction. Thank you Hypnobirthing Hub! During the exhale part is it exhale through nose or mouth?

Hello Jessica, I am a fellow @Hypnobirthinghub student. While I was studying I read that it is through either, which ever one makes you most comfortable. For some people it will be through nose or mouth. For me it is - in through the nose and out through the mouth which allows me to control the timing easier. I hope they have someone who answers these online questions for us. I see you wrote your comment a month ago - what works best for you?

I just found this on page 122. Surge Breathing - Practice Technique 1. Relax in a seated position. Your body is relaxed, loose and limp, and your mouth is open. 2. Place your middle fingers just touching on your belly button. Make sure that just the middle fingers will touch. 3. Take a long, slow and deep breath *in through your nose* into your abdomen, breathing up as far you can. 4. As you breathe in your fingers will come apart. Note that the deeper the breath, the farther away your fingers will become. 5. Then slowly breathe *out through your mouth* as your fingers return to the just touching again. 6. Slowly breathe in for as long as you can to reach a comfortable number. Perhaps 10? Remember; do not hold your breath! You and your baby need oxygen. 7. Slowly breathe out to the same count. 8. Slowly breathe in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 (or what feels right for you). 9. Slowly breathe out 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 (or what feels right for you). 10. Continue to breathe in this way for five in and out breaths. This may feel quite hard work at first. But the more times you practice, the easier it will become. By practicing, you can comfortably increase the count, and this will increase your lung capacity.
