One thing I love doing in any synthesizer is creating typical analog leads to try to emulate some of the great analog synths from back in the day and today we are making that typical analog lead in Surge XT, an amazing free synthesizer vst!

Surge is one of my favorites. Thanks again for all these great tutorials which really help me find my way around these synths, and it's so thoughtful that you actually include the voice link. I've done about 5 of these tutorials now in synths from Vital to Pigments, Diva and Hive (probably my least favorite in the bunch, though Diva is awesome) and now Surge. Just great learning material.

@@jonaudio No, Diva is one of my MOST favorite synths; it's Hive that I'm not crazy about. I love Diva. I must have phrased that wrong!

Sounds lovely, can't wait for the next one ,when we see the modulation capabilities 👍 I voted for falcon on the next one ,even though I don't own it 😂 but it doesn't matter because I always learn something!

The next two were gonna dive a little deeper into surge. Its looking like next week is going to be falcon, so expect those videos to be much longer. Falcon takes more time to program but with such a behemoth of a vst, its the nature of the beast

I really starting to love VST Synths that do not look like a photo of a vintage hardware synth. I find it much more productive to work with windows UI components then images of little knobs, personally. This UI looks great, and I am absolutely loving, pigments as well.

I can understand where you're coming from. With the new stuff we got now with pages, it does feel much more effecient. Sometimes I'll be in the mood for super vintage interfaces and sometimes I get tired of them. Just depends on the day I suppose

7:58 You always impress me, buddy. While you were previewing the lead, I thought you'd also play the bass you synthesized in the previous Surge XT tutorial. It sounded like a perfect match in my mind.

That would have been a great idea! Those two presets would probably work well together, especially with a 909 kit or something too

I wanted to bring massive X to the channel but for some reason it would consistently crash on me, which is very odd since no other synth or vst has crashed on me except Hive 2 when you rapidly change presets in FL studio, but with that one a fix should be here any day.

Wtf? Why is anybody using any other VST besides surge? This thing is OP. I'll take no visual feedback and superior sound design (FOR FREE BY THE WAY )over a bunch of fancy looking graphs THAT COST $200 any day

Surge is amazing!! When I first loaded it up I was super skeptical since it was free. Then after playing with it for a couple minutes. My mind was blown. It sounds excellent and I personally love the UI

@@jonaudioI can appreciate why some people are a bit thrown off by the UI at first. After introducing some of my fellow composer friends to Surge I found myself helping a handful of them out with getting started. Literally just actually start doing something with the synth with a teeny bit of guidance on "start here, fiddle with these settings, then do this" and they were off to the races.
