The ice thing seems to me like people may eat less food because it tricks the body into thinking it's full. Regardless, the body understands past a certain point that it's not getting the required nutrients and urges you to eat food so I don't see this being an issue. The mineral content thing is potentially harmful but you can easily get the minerals from foods. There is also a thermal regulation issue where the body uses more energy to bring the ice up to temperature than it's worth but that's only if you're not being active enough to heat your body. If you're moving around a lot and heating your body up eating ice can actually do you good because it reduces sweat, and sweating can make you colder. This topic amongst others in the video has some validation but seems to be overstated to an extent to make it seem worse than it actually in. Of course there are case scenarios where these things may happen but a lot of the time in a survival situation the benefits outweigh the risks of bad things happening. For example: peeing on a jellyfish sting may even be a placebo to make the pain reduced, and if that is the case it's probably worth it because realistically nothing bad is ever going to happen.

Simon totally forgetting that bears have powerful jaws that can break bones do kicking whilst up a tree, may result in a missing foot 😅

The CDC recommends you leave your water at a Rolling Boil for 1 to 3 minutes based on Elevation. Simply melting the ice won't make for any changes, except... Ice turning to water.

I'm pretty sure the ice thing is because normal water has a lot of minerals in it that your body uses, but ice is just solid H20 and is lacking the same amounts of minerals. Ergo, if you only eat ice, drink melted ice, there is a chance that you will be come some form of mineral deficient.

10:45 Ice is pure water that has been frozen. Potable or drinkable water that we all drink everyday has minerals that our body needs in order for the balance inside cells not to mess up basically. If you drink pure water (Just H20), the concentration of minerals in that water causes your cells to absorb too much water in a hypotonic exchange (If i remember correctly from GCSE). This is also true for the north and South Pole and is one of the less talked about effects of climate change: when they melt, they put fresh water into the ocean at the poles, which in turn (idk how tbh) changes where the Gulf Stream goes, pushing it further south. This means the UK is actually one of the few places on Earth where when the average temperature of the planet increases, our average temperature decreases, as we will then have similar temperatures with countries like Canada (We are about level with them if you look at a map)

May have already been said but there’s a saying when it comes to bear encounters, which before you say anything is for when the bear is likely to attack because you can’t get away ‘If it’s brown lay down’ so grizzly bears, alot of attacks are mothers protecting their young or just you’re too close to their home, so make yourself seem as harmless to the bear as possible, cover your head neck and chest, the bear will probably naturally come up to you smell you, probably claw you and push you around but it’s better than been seen as a threat and mauled mercilessly ‘If it’s black fight back’ this is the situation where you want to look big and menacing, throw objects, shout, fight for your life, these bears tend to be more timid in nature when it comes to encounters with humans, they’re more likely to run away rather than attack. ‘If it’s white say goodnight’ polar bears, one of the very few animals in the world that will actively hunt and kill humans for food, to protect their own and just because they have no chill, you’ve got no chance of fighting it, out running it, out smarting it, out swimming…basically get inside a building or as the saying goes say goodnight. Hope this helps in your next bear encounter 🙂
