My immediate thought when you talked about mitten blockers was to trace them on old thin plastic cutting board material and then cut them into blockers! (Yes I do have some hiding in the cupboard that I don’t know if they can be recycled- so why not reuse them?! Now you have me excited to knit some mittens and try it! PS- thanks ladies- you bring curiosity, kindness, and cleverness to a hobby I adore. And I love your use of highbrow and lowbrow yarn- super approachable.

Kate, I’ve knit a lot of mittens and when I was deep in stranded mitten world, I made a couple of sets of blockers out of cardboard and duct tape. I wrapped the cardboard to waterproof. The hand was one piece and the thumb separate. They worked pretty well. But I also blocked mittens and just pulled and pushed them into shape. Love the episode!

You could also try to block the mittens on a long baloon you blow 15 % smaller than your desired circomference. They will fit perfect on your hands later. After knitting a 28" x 52" baby blanket "Honeycomb Afghan" by Laura Strutt, during hot humid Montreal weather, I am now knitting my second pair of "Color Palette Socks" by Laura Moorats, best pattern to get through leftover fingering yarns.

I love your podcasts and the suggestions for various patterns are wonderful. I'm looking forward to giving some of them a try. You asked for what we're knitting at the moment and I'm knitting the Stephen West SSAL. I've never done any kind of KAL but so far I'm finding it fun but occasionally a challenge, especially when I find that I've misread the directions but I'm enjoying Stephen's helpful videos.

I think Laura should have picked some Ito Sensai as well. It's a nice fine mohair and so soft. I am now trying to work out how many skeins of Eldrich I will need to have shipped as no other colour will ever do...thank you! I was working on another Vuono Hat as I watched you podcast. I think that's number five and I still have to knit my own. You're fun to watch, I loved when all three of you leaned back as one 😂

I used to stuff my sock blocker into mittens before I got my mitten blockers. The leg end works well.

Make a mitten blocker. I made a set of sock blockers with a plastic flexible cutting board from the dollar store. A placemat works too. Use kitchen scissors.

I just cast on The Emsworth Vest by Isabel Kraemer and when I started typing this I remembered you helped me pick the yarn at Rhinebeck last year in the Primrose booth. Laura, couldn’t agree more about Daily Pullover. Made mine in kettle (black) and wore it many times this past winter. I also love Jade Saphire Sylph which I used in my Shakerag. Thanks for inspiring me to use it again. It’s a real splurge for me but you made me realize that it’s worth it! Thanks!

Great podcast! There's a great article at Interweave about brioche vs fisherman's rib including drawings showing the subtle difference in the fabric. Google it to find it. Fisherman's is more beginner friendly and it's so close to brioche that only an expert can tell. I will be knitting the Gentlemen Cardigan for my son which is brioche knit flat. I'm totally doing fisherman's rib instead because brioche for me is not mindless. Have a look at the article and see what you think. ❤

Kate did you cast on the number of stitches the pattern Renunculous called for. I see a lot of people complaining the neck is too big. I’m older and do not have the neck to wear a wide neckline 😅

Sorry for the delay, I “lost” your comment! 🤣 First note, I am using the original one-size pattern. I cast on for the wider neckline but did 70 stitches on size 8 needles. I used an alternating knit/purl long tail cast on. I hope this helps!

I'm in Stowe, VT and I left my office in Montpelier early today due to expected river cresting in town...southern VT is getting clobbered, and it seems to be making its way north - Waterbury is starting to flood. I live on a hill so hoping we don't have too bad a time, but roads around us are getting dicey!
