In 1991 I idly compiled a montage of some of the emotional reunions from Cilla Black's 1991 series of Surprise! Surprise! (LWT). Here is my choppily-edited compilation from the original home-recorded video.

The story about the chap who’s daughters were just taken to America without his knowledge, was just shocking. The pain of that moment was still written on the poor man’s face 17 years on. Great television.

If I'm ever feeling very down and the black hole in my heart is hurting... I watch videoes of kids who surprise their step dads (usually) with adoption papers for birthday presents or soldiers who come back and surprise their kids or families. There is one particular video of a dog who is reunited with his owner and its unbelievably beautiful... There's some videos of even like fully grown lions and all just getting so excited to see people who reared them. Check out one video Rachael where there is a man who finds a gorilla who he reared and let go into the wild...its years later and the crew are very nervous... I mean the gorilla can just pull you apart like warm bread... But he comes down and they reunite and he brings his babies and families down to show him... Needs to be more love in the world Lots of ☀ ✌️ 🥂 from 🇮🇪

I definitely don't think they did not want to meet - it was just different times and some were just emotionally overwhelmed and finding it too difficult to deal with plus the added pressures of tv cameras and being on television. It deals with heart-wrenching topics and life events. Id never seen this program until now - amazing stories. My only piece of criticism is that FLAMIN STEP!!! Id like to know if some bright spark eventually realised they'd be best getting rid of it - people come out to be reunited with long lost family members, they've travelled halfway round the world, defying illness and health problems - only to be nearly finished off right at the last second by that Flamin Step!!!?? No health and safety in those days!
@jsmithmultimediatech5 жыл бұрын
Talking of which yeah there's much harsher things even before then but that's just the way it was then, though I do think sometimes its like what Adam Hills says now Bureaucracy over Common sense, for them to even have a candle light would require a fire expert at the ready with a fire extinguisher I'm not kidding either. For some reason when you said about health and safety it would have existed then but then been far more relaxed about it as opposed to now, I mean going far back to the 1800s even just general working of course Hanna Dyson an 11 year old girl her leg was factually crushed in a Mill in Leeds, forms part of the realisation of what it was like in Industrial Britian the latter part of that same revolution, ended up having it amputated, 1864 I think it was, some can't watch the reconstruction video of the surgeon prepping the student Dr's about it. That's at the Thackary Museum the Leeds Teaching Hospitals museum rather.

Hahaha that is very true! I bet the one in green scowling is wishing that it was a real video link up and that they'd stayed in Australia!! 😂 Maybe there was too much going on for her and she was completely overwhelmed? But I remember reading something that there wasn't all happy endings to these stories! I think some people wanted to say away for example... Hope you're well Maggie and watching this makes me want to bring it right back to weekends with my nana and grandad... So we'd have to put on old Corrie, with Mike, Alma and Percy and Bet with her leopard skin behind the bar in the Rovers, Heartbeat, Inspector Morse, Emmerdale when it was still called Emmerdale Farm, Generation Game with Bruce Forsyth, Paul Daniels popping up somewhere, Michael Barrymore, Les Dennis doing Family Fortunes and a Roger Moore James Bond film! 😂 Have the evening cuppa, two slices of toast with real butter and orange marmalade (with peel) and a Mikado, a Bourbon Cream and a Custard Cream... Maybe 2 Custard Creams if you took your spoonful of cod liver oil without a hassle... Sorry for going on their Maggie... Just got a big wave of nostalgia and good memories over me!
