Quirky, fun, unique and surprising - that summarizes the Gretsch Rancher Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric guitar! This fun, cowboy centric guitar arrive with low expectations. Given the price I had certain expectations that were not met, instead I was pleasantly surprised!

Hi ya'll, I bought one second hand after playing one that my wife's cousin had. Really impressed in the "bang for bucks" stakes. Using it on stage as well - get your hands on one. Has a lovely small neck as well.

Love acoustic electric's with the battery location separate on the outside near the end pin. Makes sense , especially for working musicians . Battery change is easy ! Nice sounding guitar btw ! Thanks for the review.🎸🎸🎸

I had a Martin DXME with the battery inside the body. You’d have to reach into the sound hole to take it out or put it in. Horrible design.

I love my Gretsch Rancher, had it for years! My son bought it for me as a gift in 2010. Mine does plug right into the button for the electronics and just yesterday the electronics stopped working and there’s a constant high pitch shrill. Switched amps, switched guitar plugs, switch battery out and nothing fixed it. I’ve been playing it more than I’ve ever played it before in the last two years. Seems like my electronics have always been louder on the bass strings then on the high strings (even after EQ). Still I love it and it’s a gift so I will be getting a new pick up installed for sure. I got a lot of videos on my TT if you ever wanna hear some other songs played on the Rancher. Thanks Chris great video now I gotta check out the jumbo lol. I have 13 it’s a bad number anyway I gotta add one more lol

I’ve had this guitar for close to 2 years now and I’ve had a great time with it! I play it fairly regularly and have kept it in tune the entire time I’ve had it with very minimal issues. I don’t think I have any caveats, it’s been very easy to play from the start and the fit and finish leave little to be desired, especially for the prices

It does sound really sweet? I too was a bit surprised. I recently purchased a D10E Martin for a need in a pit band which I played in. That Gretch guitar would have worked well in that setting. I could also hear it in the P&W setting.

I have a Gretsch G5034TFT , the one with the Bigsby Trem. Yeah...an acoustic with a trem! Very cool guitar. Plugged in, it has a kind of Chris Isaak vibe. It's kind of a one-trick pony , but what it does is so unique and musical... I don't use it often, but when I do it's a stand out guitar!

If Chris starts looking, and his hat size is larger than my 6-7/8 (You can call that a small 'nut' size. ), a Stetson should be easier to find. It took me 25 years to hunt down this one, after "Urban Cowboy" drove prices up in the early 1980s. When I was spending a month at private pilot training at the former Stead AFB, my motel had a 25% discount coupon for Sheplers, and they'd just marked down this Stetson to $120 so it was a no-brainer at ninety bucks (and fortunately the box fit in the overhead bin on AlaskaAir). The grandkids will get the hat and guitars... but that's at least twenty years away. 😊 Thanks, Chris. I enjoy the always thoughtful and erudite reviews, with elegant demonstration.

Thank for the tone vs volume point. I have a older Guild GAD JF30. I found it's tone using Daddario NB 12s. Not loud but you really hear the maple-sitka combination. I could use strings that boost volume but I want to hear the wood rather than the string.

@@jeffrey.a.hanson I think that he just doesn't like the sound of either, so he compared an inexpensive guitar to an overpriced guitar which he probably prefers the sound of a Martin or Gibson. Most likely just an opportunistic dig at Taylor...perhaps an attempt at humor. I got the joke. I play Martins mostly. I would love to find a Taylor that I could appreciate. This is why there is many choices. Let's jam and swap guitars. I do think Taylor are overpriced.

Hi, Tex. I was looking on Reverb and found 80 results for Gretsch Rancher Dreadnought (and there are likely many more photos from many different angles, too). A foot and a half of snow fell last Wednesday, schools closed for the day, and since Thursday, whatever that morning's slush had been shaped into has frozen solid for the duration. Hope you're all staying warm and dry over there... Charlie

In what regard? It sounded really good in the demo. I wouldn’t say it’s a beginner guitar, more an affordable intermediate that brings good value for money. It retails for $450 which is usually outside the budget of a straight beginner.

I have been playing for 55 years, and gigging for the past 30 years, and I consider this “experienced”. This Gretsch sounds plenty good to me. Chris said it has “great tone”, and he said that “it plays really good”. By my criteria, if it plays good and sounds good, it IS good… plenty simple way to evaluate musical instruments, IMHO…

I played easily 20 guitars at GC recently, and I picked up a Alvarez Parlor that was on sale for $250. It sounded as good or better than many of the guitars that were close to $1000. I bought it and am still loving it a month later. Sound and playability are what make a guitar and price is irrelevant.

I hate it when guitar reviews have some ass hat thinking he's/her has to come out here and wow us with their guitar prowess. Just play the freaking guitar...let us hear it. Anyway good job on the review!
