In this video, we explore the wonderful under-rated capital city of Albania, Tirana. We didn't know what to expect when we first arrived in Tirana and were so surprised by the kindness of the people, the amazing food selection, and all the history this city has to offer. Not long after arriving, you realize that Tirana has an amazing coffee and food culture. Be sure to allow plenty of time to take this all in as there is an abundance of restaurants and cafes to choose from. We absolutely loved our time in this city and hope to return one day to explore more. If you have the opportunity to visit we highly recommend doing so. You will only appreciate the people, city, and culture more after spending time here.

You guys are great. My wife and I are retiring early, by the end of 2022. We've been to Spain multiple times, almost all the same cities, so we've decided to start our expat journey there. The new places you all are traveling to create a fantastic "road map" of lesser known places for others to follow. Thank you and looking forward to watching more and learning more from your travels.

Over the last couple of years,thanks to COVID,I’ve come across a number of videos on Albania,which I discovered the beauty of the country,the delicious food on offer and the hospitable people that they are. One to visit when in Europe.

Hi Guys. Thanks for the excellent coverage of Tirana. Looks like a nice cool place with a very nice ambiance, vibe, affordable option to eat, and good Beer. Looks like you guys had the most Beer in any one week from what I can tell. Also from the outfit that people were in, seems like a not bad of a weather for this time in Feb in Europe. One request can you please give little more details on the Air BnBs you stay in and the locations (a link to the place if you wont mind) so this will reduce my research for accommodation in cities you cover. As always thanks for the fine entertainment to my breakfast time.

Like you, we’re in the Seattle area but are a few more years away from calling it a career. We picked up on you when you were in Spain as we have been attracted to that area for future consideration. Your videos are great, I am closer to your age than most other travel KZfaqrs, so can relate more. You mention wanting to visit Ireland but it was too expensive. I can help with that later this year after I do some traveling this summer. You can use my home as a base and I can feed you as I am constantly cooking for work. Not having to pay for those essentials may make it affordable. If not I will get your flights too :-) . You can't come to Europe and not see Ireland!

Hi Carrie and Brian, I’m really enjoying your videos. Thanks! I’m curious how far out in the future you have set plans, and Airbnb reservations. Also, for Airbnb, it seems the have a system wide cancellation policy for stays of 28 days or more, that you only have 48 hours to get a full refund. After that, you are out the 1st 30 days, oh you cancel. If one is only staying a month, then basically you would lose the entire booking if you had to change plans. Of course bookings of 28+ days can come with significant discounts. How do you approach this situation in your bookings? Thanks so much, and Happy Travels! ✈️🚃🍻
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Great question! We book out usually 3 months ahead. However, we will be in Split, Croatia next September and October and we are finding places are already starting to book. We felt we had to get a place, something we would NOT normally do. It is a risk to be aware of for sure. We are in Sarande, Albania now and we used booking.com for the first time. You don't pay until you show up. Pricing is usually comparable so we've recently started searching there as well. Airbnb is a very easy and trustworthy platform so we've just stuck with it when we are sure about our plans. Thank you so much for supporting our channel!! Cheers!!!🍻

Enjoy your videos and exploits. Curious what you do when you’re being a tourist and exploring and how will what you do when just living fits into your possible choice of a more permanent landing stop? We have also been exploring different countries to resettle to as retirees. While we have visited a number of European comities, we have preference for New Zealand with their active conservation culture and volunteer opportunities as our hobby. But NZ is expensive. Your thoughts?
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, that's a great question. When we are in places like Tirana we are just tourists with no expectations of living their long term. We ultimately want to find a place we can live and be a part of the community much like you have found in New Zealand. Someplace affordable with year-round sunshine and close to the coast. We actively search out places that we think will fit, however, we are also just starting our world travels and want to see as much as we can before settling down. So we end up in places like Sevilla, Spain, and Tirana, Albania. Both are well worth visiting but would not be suitable for more than a few weeks. Hopefully, this answered your question. Thank you for watching and supporting our channel. We very much appreciate the comments and interaction. Cheers!!!🍻 \

Yugoslavian? No, no, no, nooo .....Yugoslavia was a different country made up by six ethnically Slavic (Yugoslavia = union of the southern Slavs) republics, the modern day countries of Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia -Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia, and the autonomous so to speak province of Kosovo, within Serbia's jurisdiction, of mostly Albanian ethnicity. Hence the tensions in today's frail independent country of Kosovo 😶. 90 percent of the people of Kosovo are ethnically Albanian but the Serbs want the land back. Albania proper however was always a country on its own both during and after Yugoslavia. Albanians are not Slavs , and the language (Albanian) is not related to the Slavic language family, or any other Indo-European group for that matter. The Social Studies class of the day is over; no homework. I like your videos, commentary and all; what time of the year is that?
