Thank you for that. It's all much clearer now. Two small things to hopefully make you smile about needles. Mum always wondered how this supposedly right handed child threaded, eventually, a needle left handed. Still not learnt to do it right handed! And ..... plain hemming, at my in laws I was happily hemming a very long skirt hem. Got as far as I could right handed, so promptly moved the needle to my left and carried on hemming. Poor Mother in Law blinked, looked twice and asked, " Did you just do that? " "Do what?" I replied. I had no idea I did that, apparently I still do and its perfectly natural!

I love your content! This really works! I learned this method as a young boy many, many years ago when I was taught how to weave in the ends of yarn on my crochet projects. It has served me well through the years for every gauge, from the bulkiest of yarns to to the very finest of needlework threads. Though there is some obvious flexibility with applications of different types of needles, it is important to note, especially for beginners, that failure to use the proper needle for the task can mean the difference between success and failure, and could possibly explain any undue difficulty experienced when using this method.

Ha! I figured this out on my own because it just made sense to me. Nice to see my brain still works after all the hell (schooling) I’ve put it through 😂

Thanks Sarah, my biggest problem due to poor eyesight is finding the hole of the needle. I do thread my needles the way you suggest, however I have folded the thread every time and run it through to the point end as it is much smaller. If only the eye of the needle would magically get big enough for me to see it. I also have trouble threading a machine needle but much harder for me, all a bit of luck and if I shut my eyes I seem to be able to focus better. Also I too am right handed the needle is always in my right hand just the way I roll.

This might sound strange Caraline, but you don't necessarily need to be able to see the hole if you use this method! It's more about the way you handle the thread. I hold the thread in my right hand and the needle in my left as I'm right handed and for this method you need more control of the thread not the needle; try it the other way around! I've been doing this so long I can actually thread the needle underneath a frame without seeing either the thread or the needle at all! For your machine needle, you could take the needle out of the machine, thread it, then put it back in?

I just had your channel suggested to me and it's cool that I discovered how to thread my needles the same way a pro does! I also discovered with tapestry yarn to untwist and flatten out the strands before folding it over the needle.
