Thanks! I'd buy your frame sooner rather than later, just have a feeling they might not be selling them separately forever. I'm already getting parts for a 2nd build, decided to make a street-focused bike with primary and secondary belt drive and supermotos. Good luck with your build!

1000km /1 MONTH UPDATE -- Now that I've got just under 1000km on this build, thought I'd do an update on how it's performing for those who might be considering doing the same. I'll go over several areas of the build and how they're doing. FIRST: holy crap, this thing is fun as fack! As an old BMX/ motocross rider, this little bike really brings back the fun and excitement I remember from my YZ80/YZ250 riding days. Light, small, but handles great and fast AF. Totally worth the time, work, and cost to build it. I'll go over some of the individual components and how they're holding up: - 3D-printed PETg battery case: despite what some "experts" 🤣 predicted, that the case would crumble under use, it's holding up perfectly. Granted, as someone well into their 50s, I'm not Jett Lawrence doing 70ft. triple jumps. But I've taken her multiple times on a nearby MX track, and trails with some jumps, and the case has so far held up. I did put a 1mm sheets of rubber under the pack, and 1mm rubber inside under the cell blocks, which probably helps. Still gonna get a V3 made of my metal cases, which will fit my 22S pack, but so far the PETg box hasn't 'crumbled' under spirited use. - Battery pack: This 80v Samsung 40T pack is performing absolutely f'n awesome. Yes, if I had to do it again I would definitely have spent the extra 400 euros (tiny considering full build cost) and gone with Molicel P45B. Absolutely. But all Molicel were sold out in Europe when I did the pack build, and in fact they were sold out almost 5 months! Anyway, the 40Ts (and Ant BMS) are performing flawlessly. See pics - the max voltage deviation between groups is two THOUSANDTHS of a volt. After hard running for 30min, cell temps were only 24C! (Ambient was about 22C.) And BMS was only 26C. Amazing. Max voltage drop I'm seeing under heavy load is 6-7v, which ofc would be better with the P45Bs. And even though I'm 'limited' to about 315A/29kW - and a P45B pack would provide 400A/35kW - I've never felt the need for more power. - Magura MT7 brakes: this I've found is a controversial one. Some love em, some hate em. This is my 3rd Magura MT build. For my use, my riding - they are absolutely great. Great stopping power, progressive and predictable, no fade. BUT - I'm learning to use the X9000 Regen braking more and more, which supplements the MT7s. And I'm not street riding 70mph with frequent high speed stops. I'm sure there are use cases where these would be inadequate, and who knows, maybe in the future I'll swap them for moto brakes. But so far I'm totally happy with them. - Manitou Dorado & Vonkat TenFive: I absolutely LOVE the suspension setup on this bike. Yes the dorados are MTB forks and can flex a little bit. Yes 29kW and a 65kg bike + rider is pushing them beyond their design. But I had them on my Kuberg FreeRider in 2017, loved them then and still feel the same. Vonkat also is working great. Again, if I was doing 70ft. triples or had the Glen Helen vet track next door, probably I'd feel the need to upgrade. But for my riding, this setup really works great. - Bridgestone Battlecross X30 tires: I mentioned in the sound video, the traction from these things is amazing. They grip so well, then when you start to break traction, it's totally predictable and progressive. - EBMX X-9000 V2: Smooth as butter, and laughs at the power I'm throwing at it. My 29kW isn't even making this thing breathe hard. After that same 30min hard ride, the X9 was 24C, barely 2 degrees above ambient! Amazing. Love, love this controller. - KO RS motor: Surprised at how torquey and smooth it is. I understand that XLB-60 is the state of the art, and planning to upgrade to one, but I'm really impressed by the power and torque this little RS is putting out. The max temp I've seen after hard riding was 41C, which is both impressive, and shows I'm not riding hard enough! 🤣 - W9 primary chain drive: great off road, but loud and vibrat-y on road, with really annoying resonant frequencies at certain speeds. See below about street vs dirt riding. 12/19/29kW Difference: See the video I shot on this trail, at first I kept it maxed at 19kW. But now after over 100 runs here, I have enough experience to use the full power. Still gotta be careful, I really don't want a Rapid Deceleration Event into a tree. Noticed some interesting differences about the three power levels: 12kW: very fun, feels safe and predictable. You can totally pin it out of corners and on straights, without crazy wheelspin. Nice to be able to use 100% of the power and not have overly sensitive throttle. 19kW: great everyday setting, still predictable and progressive throttle response, but with definitely more of a kick out of corners. Very fast but not scary (most of the time). 29kW: holy fack. Absolutely nuts, in a good (and terrifying) way. I can be going 55kph on dirt or pavement and it'll do a violent power wheelie if you're not careful. On that trail in the video, I was powering out of a hard packed dirt corner, got on it, and the bike wheelied out of the corner while leaned way over! I was smiling so big and laughing my ass off! More power is definitely more fun. But again, gotta be careful bc you can easily get into trouble with that much power. Street vs. Dirt use: I've found that, in general, I really hate street riding. Don't like riding together with traffic at road speeds, and don't like riding on the shoulder at moped speed, at the mercy of distracted drivers looking at Instagram. For a long trip on twisty rural roads, I've got high performance cars for that. Just not a road biker, for me it's unreasonably dangerous. And after riding the Ron on both, I see this absolutely a perfect little dirt bike. Yes, you can kludge/adapt it for street use, but it'll always be a dirt bike. I got a set of supermotos from Milk, but now I'm doubting if I'll really use em. Plus, the W9 chain drive is really annoying on the road. Ideal solution is to have 2 Surrons: one for the dirt and one set up for road use. V2 Already in the Works: I'm already gathering parts for V2 of this build, for a project next winter. Blue XLB-60, blue heatsink, and I have a set of blue anodized 16 19s from Milk. And, was planning a P45B pack with 525A BMS. But with how great this pack is performing, it's really not necessary to build another pack. Yes, 12% more capacity and less voltage sag would great, and yes, 35kW is cool for 'bragging rights', but honestly 29kW is plenty for me.

Great video and I appreciate your huge effort. Had to laugh because one of your pluses was that you don't have to replace parts and have a lot of extra parts laying around but the number of times you were saying that you bought this part but the got this part like wheels and such. The loud noise is definitely coming from the primary chain.

Thank you!! Of course, Nate's bike was the inspiration (*cough*directly copied from*cough*)! 1400km on it already, bike absolutely rips. So fun. XLB-60 is probably in its future, but honestly even with the RS it still pulls like a freight train. This bike wouldn't have happened without CCW, appreciate everything you guys are doing. Leaders in this field. Edit: have you guys done a direct comparison between the XLB-60 and the KO Big Block? Thoughts?

Man, I wish you were my neighbor :) I would help you anytime (for free of course) just to have the opportunity to 1) work with such an enthusiastic and systematic person and 2) learn. I upgraded almost everything on my Chinese 6kW e-bike (tyres, rear shock absorber, controller, Brembo brakes + custom mounts, wider brake discs, built-in 3.3kW charger, brake levers, bi-led headlights, Android auto display, etc. ), but that's nothing compared to your build. I look forward to your next videos! Have a nice day!

So, embarrassed to say... Holeshots near the end were only 15kW! Was only 1st/2nd runs on bike, and X9000 app was set on defaults. Only later did I check and see level 3 was limited to 15kW. So what you're seeing here is about half the bike's power! 😂😂

Hi, great video thank you for all this information!! In the 3:45am part those white plastic also go between the swing arm and the frame? Because I installed those silver washers and I’m wonder if I need those plastic ones as well? Thanks again!!
@CoolWatts
@CoolWatts Ай бұрын
Thanks. No, as I remember, only the silver shoulder washers go in, no additional white plastic ones were used.

About 10-11kg heavier than stock, due to battery & wheels.

You are really great at sourcing good quality for cheap and building an awesome looking bike. You should start a custom build business. I’m sure there’s a huge market of affluent buyers that would pay you $20K or more for a bike like this.

Thanks! But shipping bikes from Ukraine might be problematic 😂
@NickWindham
@NickWindham 28 күн бұрын
@@CoolWatts You’d be surprised. Customers will pay for extra for fast shipping when their net cost is still significantly better. For example, I bought a Polygon mountain bike from BikesOnline that came in one big box with easy assembly instructions. Their shipping wasn’t cheap, but net it was still a few hundred dollars cheaper than a similarly specced bike shop brand. In your case, you might still be a few grand less expensive. For another example, Arctic Leopard air ships their full size dirt-bikes in a couple big boxes of easy to assemble parts. Lastly, being a Ukraine based business will serve you extremely well in international markets. We want to support you!

Well the Big question is that's great and all. I definitely get it I've done the same but what would you sell your bike for that you put all that time and energy into. When i tell people what id sell my 32Kw build for they look at me like I'm crazy and supposed to sell it for less knowing that can buy what I built but again never mind what it cost you just like the Laffy Taffy guy now put your price on its value?
@CoolWatts
@CoolWatts 3 ай бұрын
Good points - I think anyone who does a high-end custom Surron build like this, or yours, doesn't do it for resale. It's for personal satisfaction. I only recently took the bike on dirt and thru some jumps for the first time, and the ear-to-ear smile I had, and laughter, was well worth the $7k+ I spent on it, to me. Now if I'd spent $16k, well, that's a lotta money for a Surron. But I'm sure for some owners it's well worth it.

@@CoolWatts Oh absolutely I feel the same definitely not ourt to sell my build but stiill need to put a value on it because although thats 7k in parts its allot in labor. My pack cost me about $1200 in cells but no doubt in my mind you cant buy a pack like ive made no prefab bus bars with nickel inserts or laser welded I use .2mm copper the entire coverage are of the cells wtth .15 nickel welded copper nickel sandwich Kweld I mean with heavy guage everything for max current flow no manufactured pack not even PL or Chi batteries can compare so thats Big savings there you gotta have an idea what youd value your bike at if someone came with worthy offer. Most cases never happens because what Ive learned about most of the ecommunity they all want the best for nothing . its about 10% of us that go all out on these builds and I get that everyone not doing it like that, anyway nice build Enjoy

What you did not mention is that the cost of your bike was actually higher because you did not add labor, and labor you said was a two-month deal. So that is about 6000$ per month, and therefore your bike needs to have 12000$ cost added to the price. So that cost you are showing us is the cost to you, minus cost for labor.
@CoolWatts
@CoolWatts 2 ай бұрын
Yeah true! But I wasn't working on it all day every day. I think anyone looking at a DIY project understands they're providing their labor for free to achieve a lower cost than buying from a dealer.
@Apatillo74
@Apatillo74 15 күн бұрын
Champ you are Right on the Labor but he is doing it for his self So the Joy of Riding the Bike will Balance that $12k out plus what he will make on Royalties from all the Videos that he made during the build and you can see that he is a very fruitful guy bc if he has something extra that he don't need he will resell it and that Helps him and others .. Plus like he said ....He will have the Pleasure of Enjoying something that he basically built from Scratch or Frame Up and it's a Helluva Hobbie that Sucks you in so Easily but finding parts can be a Headache A lot of the times bc basically all of the parts are coming from mainly China & Overseas...So that in itself is a Problem here in America that Needs Addressing and A lot of Americans would Love to Buy American Parts that don't take months to receive and leave the u feeling Nothing but Buyers Remorse...
