Surrounded by Garfish in Cowell | South Australia

2 ай бұрынWe trek down to Cowell in South Oz for a few nights to get a bit of rod building done while the wind was up and check out the area.
The wind finally lets up enough for us to get the dinghy out and into some of the local Garfish. Whiting was the target species but soon found myself surrounded by a huge school, grabbed enough for a feed and left them biting.
Can you even say you are a fisherman in S.A. without getting into the Garfish?
Every time I say Simo you must also take a drink! RIP Mate

Another epic session, awesome to see the fat Garfish wanting to come for a boat ride! I reckon Simon would have loved to see you hauling in the Gars. I also think he’d love to see his Garfish rig duplicated in pink and sold on your site for your next Breast Cancer fundraiser. 🎣🎣

Great episode as per usual team Jelly.. Mini Marlin fishing there Jed.. fantastic... very under rated little fish is the garfish.. goes alright as sushimi or tempura as well.. Did Simon proud buddy... Looking forward to next week's episode.. And of course Kelly you win comment of the week yet again..."Did you fight the flour". I too am supprised how Jed ended up looking like he did a 8 hour shift at the local bakery, with no pies to show for it... glad he kept it simple... imagine the mess if he went full gourmet... So apparently he used the lid to shovel some flour back in to the container because too much came out at once and we think that’s how it ended up everywhere 🤷🏻♀️😂

What a great mixed bag, good to see that you're still enjoying sa, say hi to Kell, haven't had good feed of gardies for at least 15yrs ill be shore to head out in the morning have a great wading spot 10mins from home, perfect wind n tied first light this morning. Just rigging up now n back to bed 4 couple hrs 😴 sun 24/3. Keep up the shows 😀😁 wazza

Cowell is known for the 2 types of asparagopsis seaweed that they grow for a dietary additive to reduce methane from cows. It's the only place in the world where both of the types grow in the same location. Great vid. If you get to Coffin Bay... get out with Dan from GT Fishing charters. He's a gun. Tell him I sent ya! Also, get ya massive salmon off Gunyah Beach...

Epic session on the garfish. I haven’t eaten one for years either…. Honestly can’t remember what they taste like. Looked good though. Flour covered singlet 🤣🤣🤣.

Beautiful gar. Yummo. Its been 20 years since i caught one. Plenty down this way, but i just haven't tried. Love it when you pull the tinny off and set it up. It's a good feeling. Well done on another great video. 🎣👌

@oldmate_adventures another weekend off mTe. Next week, hopefully, is the last. Might be a few more small jobs after easter. Might take a week off and do some maintenance on the boat before i put it up for sale. I found the same boat for 22k. But it had a 70hp 4 srroke. Mine is a 90 2 stroke. Id be happy with 12k. Enough to buy a new small set up. Haha

@oldmate_adventures yes mate. Light as possible. Aluminium like yours would be perfect. Think they weigh around 40kgs. Boat will be around 80kg. Motor, I'm not sure yet. Was thinking the tohatsu MFS20E. Battery less start. Has a built-in one. Just need a small batter for the sounder. Its hard mate. Maybe a merc would be good like yours.

Hey mate! Yeah Beehive make good gear but the zips need constant maintenance! Unfortunately heading to NT in a few days mate and going to skip Hedland this yr, probably next year though as we'll be broke! 😆😳 Hope ya goin well mate and save me a seat for next yr!

Good episode Team Jelly, I haven’t been to that caravan park, we went to a he foreshore caravan park (all tide boat ramp & pub walking distance 🤣🍻) Check out a vid on butterfly filleting garfish on KZfaq by Fishing with F@&kface. Funny name but knows how to fillet gar
