Part 1 - Calculate the Coordinates of the points
All the coordinates for our proposed building need to be calculated. We do this by finding their distance from each other and in reference to our control points. This is also true for all 10 foot off set points. By finding the coordinates in Northing and Easting, we can then upload these coordinates to our data collector to begin staking.
Part 2 - Field Construction Staking
We begin by setting up our control network. In this video, I just used a measuring tape and pulled 55 feet from an arbitrary location. I placed a new stake in the ground for this point. We set up our instrument on our first point and a prism rod on our second point to back sight. After establishing our baseline, we then have the data collector tell us to move right or left of the total station, and in and out of the total station. This will pinpoint the location of our points. We place a stake in the ground and go to the next point until we complete all our points.

From an educator to another, great job! Not only you really know the material you're presenting, you also have an excellent delivery as well. Quick question Rami, if a beginning survey student wanted to watch your videos in sequential order, do you have a list of all your videos a viewer could follow? Thanks and keep you the good work.

It's amazing how differently we work around the world. We never occupy points, but rather use free station setup. And we would never type the coordinates ourself like this, but rather use software to type the offsets etc. Or just get a DWG file. And not to forget the confusion of using feet, decimal degrees and such units. We use meter/millimeters and we use grid coordinate systems that also uses meters. All my concrete stakeouts are done using an IFC file straight from design on my trimble sx12/TSC7 and a free station setup.
@RamiTamimi
@RamiTamimi 2 жыл бұрын
Well to be fair, I'm a Professor, in the real world, I wouldn't do this, I also use software. But my students need to learn how to do it themselves, so that's why I demonstrated it this way. Naturally, anyone who isn't American will use the metric system, so yeah I understand the the confusion in units. I personally don't know why we aren't using metric as well, Americans just like to be different I guess haha.

@AngelSanchez-du8ze
@AngelSanchez-du8ze 9 ай бұрын
Top x is where the end of the apron/driveway meets the curb. Bottom of x is the the slope of the apron meets what is called 0 curb (usually it’s not zero, it’s about a .10). Generally there is 2 top and 2 bottom of x for each typical driveway

@@RamiTamimi how to control the survey error?
@RamiTamimi
@RamiTamimi 3 жыл бұрын
Well depends on the error. If your error comes from the calculations in the office, we can adjust the coordinates based on the distances and angles given. In the field, error can be minimized by shooting the stake after placing it in the ground to ensure we are in the correct spot.

rami why or when would you use stakeout or use GPS cordinate to set up a site as opposed to the other
@port566
@port566 3 жыл бұрын
GPS takes about 2 minutes of 1Hz signals to sufficiently calculate the location. And GPS doesn't work under a canopy of trees because the GPS signal bounces off the trees, so the receiver doesn't truly know where the corresponding satellite was. As a rule of thumb, if you're locating property corners, you're better off doing a stakeout with a total station/prism for better precision, better accuracy, and more speed. But 5-second 1Hz GPS is okay for a topo on an open field.
@RamiTamimi
@RamiTamimi 2 жыл бұрын
In practice we would use a GPS. But for the purpose of education, I am simplifying the process to focus on the important topic of staking.

Pro here. First u always shoot your control ( prop corners curb etc). Then you draw the build first without the offsets which can make it confusing for a layman. The you translate and rotate your drawn building lines to the location designed by the architect or design engineer. Make sure to account for building setbacks and easements etc. Then thrown out your offsets. Then stake the building. You might need to run in a benchmark also. He is missing so many things that are needed but his concept is correct. Basically he drew box with an box missing. I staked 4 building envelopes last week and all the builder wanted was the box. Most of the other offsets get knocked out anyway. His videos are good to get an understanding of what and how surveyors do things but we all have our own methods and they vary. hopefully he did not violate any building setbacks when he randomly laid out this structure. Also , if you know how and can you a plumb bob you will eliminate most of the tape error. All total stations normally have up to .01 of error due to temp and light refraction.

If you use a 100 foot fiberglass tape or one even shorter they give great measurements. I have some ranging from 33 feet to 330 feet and they all work great. It stands to reason that the longer the tape the less accurate will be the measurement even if it be with steel tapes. I measured my property line which is 125 feet right to the hub with a fiberglass tape. I was surprised about it as much as you. The bottom line is they are better than the reports about them. Cheers.

Fiberglass tape “accurate” ? Hardly. I can pace almost as good. You can even see where it’s stretching (depending on your pull) when you’re setting your 2nd control point. Steel chain should be used, especially at “step #1” setting your control. Or maybe …. just maybe, use THE GUN ???
