Truthfully a good whistle is extremely important when in the woods. If injured a good whistle can cut hours off the time it takes a rescue team to find you. Also it takes less effort to blow a whistle than to yell for hours.

I have 4 whistles - Storm, Fox-40 Classic CMG, Acme Metropolitan, and antique German Wehrmacht 1940-s wooden pea whistle. The last one is the loudest!

I have a Wind Storm emergency whistle. Deafeningly loud. Works out, on top and under water. Excellent whistle and very inexpensive. Great comparison video!

storm all weather best. 130 decibels, easy blow, fits full hand, works under water, loud enough to be heard during a fire fight while wearing ear plugs.

I recently bought the 2-pack marine whistles for 3 bucks. At first I thought they were crappy, but once I started really blowing on them, I realized they're pretty good for the price.

I'd like to get one of those as well. Thanks!

I have a Fox 40 whistle. One of the advantages it has is the fact that it's peerless design allows for easy drying of water in case it is submerged. Also it is very, very loud. No wonder coaches prefer it, its noise can (and it does) stand out from ambient noise sources in a place like a stadium or arena, so definitely it can be used in a rescue or survival scenario.

if you redo this video, try recording the whistles outside and cutting them in

If you mean the Fox 40, I got mine from Amazon. There is a link on my webpage. If you mean the orange one (That I ranked last) I got mine at EDCdepot, but they are no longer in business right now.

So far, I've had to buy four of the Jet Scream whistles. My family keep taking them 'just in case' and, since I'm out dog walking in hilly country every day, I figure I may need one before they do with the exception of a grand-daughter who is a nurse and walks to and from work in London at odd hours. Jet Screams cost more than many others, but certainly attract attention when blown so I believe they are worth the money. All in all, good review. Thank you.

I like the jetscream/jetscream micro. A friend of mine lent me her full size jetscream, and it's loud enough to get a damn headache from. And yes, it takes a little more force to blow into them, but they are plenty loud enough. I bought myself a jetscream micro - same design, but shrunk down into a much smaller formfactor. It lives on a paracord keyring on a my lanyard.

astrangeone Not seen the Jetscream Micro, but will go looking for one now you've told me it exists. Thanks for the information.

Nice video but curious as to your blowing technique. Did you block the spout with your tongue and build up air pressure before blowing? This is especially important with pealess whistles. you might have better results
@carltongadgettmannprice3529 ай бұрын
I'm a Storm Whistle carrying guy in extreme outdoor weather conditions but when I'm at work, I perfer to carry my 3 tube Noopel whistle around my neck on a lanyard because it is more comfortable with the seatbelt harness connected around my chest whereas the Storm Whistle is uncomfortable when the seatbelt harness is connected while driving.

My scitish German Shepard went nuts in the other room, haha. The Fox 40 is great for couches because it prejects the sound away from the user. For prolonged use, it will save your hearing compared to others. I have a two tone flat one. I need to dig it out of storage. I think it may be wth my fishing gear that I have not used in a decade, haha.

I own several of the types you tested in this video. I disagree with dismissing the pea wissel, its effort versus Db's trumps the others.

You put the no-name tube in 6th place but it was the only one to overdrive your mic to clipping. Seems like it was the loudest then.

One problem with whistles with peas is that the pea can freeze, rendering the whistle inoperable.

I have one by ACR (?) orange in color writen on is " meets USCG requierments " what ever that means got it in an MRE packet
@adrn25m7 жыл бұрын
USCG requirements is short for US COAST GUARD requirements and is means it is certified for use on boats or ships as part of the mandatory safety equipment each vessel has to carry by law.

You didn't research whistles much which was obvious when you said the pea design is frowned upon, because it can accumulate bacteria as opposed to the real reason that it can clog or freeze.
@GunsKnivesSurvival4 жыл бұрын
Nope, no research, but that is what I had been told. But yes that would be a good additional reason. Thanks for watching.

I have a Wind Storm as well, but honestly I've rarely ever taken a whistle on any hike, since I know how to use a blade of grass just as easily, and it's almost as loud as the Wind Storm, easily as loud or louder than most "Survival" whistles.

Whistles just aren't a part of our modern culture. People would wonder what that sound was and then go about their business. Don't count on anyone responding to an emergency via whistle alert, for sure.
@againstthemodernworld32537 жыл бұрын
It may shock you to now that there are different 'codes' to use when signalling, just like with a gun or Morse code... Most people out in the woods would be able to recognize a distress signal.
@cesalt24087 жыл бұрын
Woods is a different story, and yes, I know about codes. For urban use, a whistle is worthless. I'd never advise a woman, especially, to bother with one.
@floyd23867 жыл бұрын
I personally have had neighbor kids that every now and then would have whistles and blow them. So sadly, in an urban situation, my reaction is going to be thinking, "not another damn whistle!"
@totallyfrozen6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the scenario you're using it in. Firefighters and search & rescue teams do listen for them. If there is no emergency then, yeah, people will think it's neighborhood kids.
