Easiest way to store an engine hoist is to lend it to a buddy and keep saying you’ll get it next time you see him. Unrelated, I’ve got two engine hoists if you ever need to use them.

13:30 - when undoing the wheel nuts -in my humble opinion you would be advised to stand on the wheel nut undoing thingy and use your body weight to break them free. - not pulling it up using your back muscles - guess who has just slipped a disc?😊🇬🇧🙂↕️

It is great to have friends and even better when they are not too far to drive. I shed a small tear when you described the ZTR situation….long story made shorter, my son was using our ZTR when it caught on fire. He was living in the “barndo” and keeping the place in shape since we were 4 hours away. He didn’t handle “the event” well and felt bad but to add insult to injury, he arranged with someone to haul off the burnt Z for free. Yep, he didn’t have to pay anything to have it taken away. I wasn’t as upset that he didn’t know to keep the grass buildup cleaned out around the pulleys (I showed him, but he didn’t think it was THAT important) or how to remedy the fire (we cannot all be brave enough to run a flaming machine into the pond) BUT it made me feel like I didn’t impart the wisdom of value in basic materials which were still viable. Mike, he will never be accused of being frugal or someone who hoards stuff for future possibilities but that one hurt a little. Both fuel tanks were melted as were anything rubber or plastic (except the wheels). I’m just happy for that feller who got it free. As for my son, he bought the farm from us and misses the Z and I suspect one day, he might come full circle and buy a parted out machine (or 3) and build a working unit. Or he might do what I did… and buy a new machine. Life really is the best teacher of all. I never criticized him over the event and don’t talk about it (where it might get back to him) out of respect for his ego and self image. I did love that Z though….it would almost fly over flat terrain and yet had no problem mowing our dams. My favorite part was how tight I could get to the trees and how fast I could mow with it. It helped me convert raw land with multiple ponds into a 10 acre back yard oasis. I love my boy more.

THIS is why I'm here... The Captain is just getting by, fixing all the little odds and ends, whilst trying to save a buck doing it... Just like me...except he much more fun... Loved this ! ... "Like me" you might think... well this month, So far, I had 3 flat tires, a broken exhaust, failing light sensor, and a planned rainwater separation done by a contractor, all aiming to deplete the budget way too fast 😫 These "lifehacks" Captain do is needed !!

A good replacement for the engine hoist is a rolling gantry crane. They are easier to use because the legs don’t get in the way. Safer and when not in use you can store stuff under it.
@maxg658116 күн бұрын
I had an engine hoist like that at the car shop I worked at. If you fabricate up some plate, you can make another pinhole for those legs to be pinned in the vertical position. That helps a lot with footprint storage.

Cap’n… I’m thinking of a project to help you out a bit…. Look for an e-mail. That grapple is more of a game changer than you may know. Mine spends more time on my loader than the bucket does. Just this past week, I did 20 hours of manual storm damage clean-up in just 4 hours! The configuration of your grapple is perfect for rocks, brush, logs, forest floor cleanup and a myriad of other tasks. You’re gonna love it!!! Glad to see you’re loading a few more projects… it wouldn’t do good r you to finish one and not still have a half dozen others to juggle!!!

I had a Ford F150 that spare underneath is a disaster, the tire dry rots and the pressure to hold the tire up ruins it / my advice is just throw the spare in the bed and if it gets in the way of a load put it in the cab or strap to the top of cab roof LOL
