They're not using "Bitcoin". They're using a Pouch app that sends Pesos to Pesos and just shows current price in BTC on screen, not on-chain. They don't even own a BTC address.

Seriously insane! They have electric scooters you can rent for around 1k I believe for a couple of hours. But cheapest way would be the tricycles for sure

I just rented a nice Honda 150 scooter in Boracay 3 weeks ago for P1K per 24 hours. Currently, I will stick with cash to save money and for better bartering power and flexibility. Everyone in the Phil's loves cash payments. Cash is still king. Phil's is implementing BitCoin in tourist areas and cities with larger foreigner owned and occupied condo's and homes. With the drastic fluctuations and unsteadiness of BitCoin and crypto, it still isn't conducive for maintaining your investment and purchasing power. Still too risky.

Why assume it must stay in the form of bitcoin? It can be used just as a medium of exchange. USD -> Bitcoin -> PHP.

@@ramontayag That is how the application is currently being used, as a medium of exchange along the blockchain application software, between linked banking institutions, specific brokerage firms and businesses. It's the rapid fluctuation of the bitcoin price itself when you purchase a certain amount that has my radar up and observing the longterm result. Example, those who bought at 20K thinking it was near a bottom have lost 3.5K in purchasing power which is far worse than inflation. What say you?

@@poiqweee I'm not sure I understand. You can keep your money in fiat. As long as your wallet has Lightning support then it can auto convert from fiat to Bitcoin and vice versa, instantly.

I'm pro DLT in general and excited for mass adoption, especially in the PI. LN has it's pros and cons for sure. Heard of "Spend the Bits" which runs on the XRPL? As a U.S. citizen, one must consider the 'taxable events' that occur with each BTC or other cryptocurrency transaction involved with the purchase of goods and services - you're essentially selling BTC each time. Not tax or financial advice. Additionally, without replenishing your spent BTC, you may end up being another "Laszlo Hanyecz ". Really enjoy your channel. Amping.

If anything, now is kind of a good time for those small merchants to accept payments in Bitcoin instead of PHP while Bitcoin is tanking.. because later on it will be worth more IF Bitcoin shoots back up to it's all time high of around $68,000...
