What do you guys think of Survivor Africa?

Fun Fact: This season almost never happened, and Survivor almost stopped after Australia. CBS actually considered canceling the show because they were worried that releasing a show called Survivor in the aftermath of 9/11

Thank you for doing these. Finding older seasons outside of the U.S. is very hard. Love reliving them through your channel.

For me, Africa is similar to Australia because of its brutal location, and one alliance pretty much dominating to the end. I do think the majority alliance of Boran was more likable than the dysfunctional Samburus though, and the Age divide and social conflicts at Samburu pretty much sealed the fate of that tribe. T-Bird absolutely should've returned and was the best player from Samburu who couldn't do much because of the bad decisions of her tribe mates, but she tried as much as she could. I also totally agree on Clarence, who I would love to see return for a second shot, and he would probably be a pretty good social player who is a physical asset and a fun character in confessionals. For the Boran boys (Ethan, Big Tom, and Lex) it is pretty clear why all 3 returned. Also I should mention the Swap as the first major twist in Survivor, and it was much needed to shake up the dynamics, plus it was especially fun to see Silas get screwed over even moreso now. I have Africa better than Australia but not as good as Borneo. Seasons: 1. Borneo 2. Africa 3:Australian Outback Ethan: Ethan is absolutely one of the most likable winners ever. I think Ethan played well under bigger threats like Lex and Big Tom who had more control over the game. I think Ethan's best moves were having a great relationship with Kim J and the Challenge Throw at the swap to take out Silas. Because of him not having as much strategic control, I would put him under Tina and Richard, but he was a huge part of the Boran Alliance, and I wish he would've done better in his return appearances. Winners 1. Tina 2: Richard Hatch 3: Ethan

Totally forgot how Brandon totally effed up his own game

After watching this season, I think there was a way at Samburu’s 2nd tribal council where all of the people in the young alliance could’ve been vulnerable. Instead of piling there votes on Silas, they could’ve done one vote for Silas, one for Kim, and one for Brandon. That would’ve been the ultimate payback strategy. But I guess this doesn’t matter because it worked out for the older alliance after all due to the tribe switch.

Definitely my favorite season... back when survivor was pure

Solid season has the 1st tribe swap in Survivor and contains some strategy evolutions as well it's interesting to see the survivor's survive Africa. I would rank it 17th.

I’m pretty sure Ethan lost the FIC because he saw a production member throw up and he hated vomit so it caused him to lose his concentration and slip

It was a good season with a lot of early terrible gameplay. Respect to all to had to stay in that tough location.

It frustrates me how much better this season would’ve been had Brandon not messed it all up for the samburus. Like damn, you can vote Frank out at the next tribal. But no, just doom yourself and your allies.

Got to say, the early seasons very much were pot luck if you did well. The strategy went from clever (getting rid of Clarence) to dumb (Brandon flipping).

I’m not Anti-Clarence by any means, but you totally neglected the fact that Clarence had an extra cherry when the whole tribe wasn’t looking. The group wasn’t mad at Clarence for helping Diane, they were mad at him for also eating the beans. It would have been fine to feed Diane some beans, but he also ate some without consulting the group first. You paint Clarence as a Saint in this video and I just think that’s extremely misleading

The way you're characterizing Clarence stealing food is so out of step with reality. He became great over the season but the incident is warranted of getting rid of him also.

They filmed on a game reserve, which prohibits hunting wildlife. The idea that animals *native to the area* were disposable so a bunch of white Americans could film a reality tv show is pretty disgusting from an ecological standpoint.
