Work and Pensions Secretary, Mel Stride, is vowing to put an end to Britain's 'sick note culture.' People who can work but refuse will be offered a personal job coach to help them return to the workplace.
Susanna questions Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride about how the new work and health support scheme will help those who can't physically work because of injury but can't have surgery because of the record length of waiting lists.

It's not the vulnerable people they are targeting, it's the people abusing it. I know as I work with them and see this everyday the excuses they make to get sick notes is shameful and they are the ones who are making real vulnerable people look bad. Real vulnerable people won't be affected the fake and woke generation will, it's that simple.

The Jobcentre staff are useless, having worked there for a number of years most of the staff are over worked and under valued. Management are only concerned about promotions and people are treated like trash and just numbers. Mel stride is another person who talks the large but delivers nothing. Jobcentres should all be closed down and the work coaches forced to get a proper job, see how they feel.

People are dying as a result of there cruelty look up disability news the organisation who have all the information and the cases of people dying after there doctors and specialists said they are not able to work so they declared them fit for work and then went on to die ..it's all there on line ..the evil of these people has no end

When I needed hand surgury I was off for 2 months. I was lucky I got the surgury quickly (this was 2016). In the time I was out of work I kept being made to go to disability assessment as I had tyo temporarily claim benifits. I was an agency nurse at the time so physically couldnt do my job. I kept being told by them, cant you work and just use your other hand…. It was mental. They refused me pip and I could only get esa which you cant easily live on at all. Luckily I had a job lined up after the surgury that enabled me to work without harming my hand as it healed ( I assessed patients by video). I really feel for thoses who are too unwell or disabled to work. We should be giving them more financial support not trying to stress and ruin their lives furthur.

It's not based on conversations with those who genuinely sufferer with their mental health; Having mental health issues isn't just feeling anxious, worried, stressed or feeling sad, down or unhappy, it's feeling so overwhelmed by the present that it consumes you and life grinds to a practical stand still and we are unable to function not just in our jobs but in our lives, hence we then need to go to the government for financial support.

What happens is after a 3 month probation period the companies see you're unwell and not up to the task so they let you go. You then end up with a 6 week wait for UC or what not and can't pay your rent or buy any food... Oh but you can get an emergency advance payment if needed , which you can pay back £30 a month and comes directly out of every payment you receive for the next 2 years 😳 Woe betide you if you find another job and the same thing happens, as there will be no EMERGENCY loan to bail you out and you'll be on the streets... All because you're not well enough for work, but they don't seem to care.

Thanks to Susanna for tackling this issue. I have worked for thirty years and now have chronic fatigue, ME type symptoms, due to a vaccine injury. Do the government think I want to live on 70 pounds per week sick benefit and never return to work due to laziness? I’ve been offered no treatment and now they’ve taken this benefit away from me after an assessment that didn’t take fatigue into account. I’m in touch with thousands online in my same situation, we are damaged by the vaccine or covid and are just trying to get through this. Please please please do a viewer poll on how many people are living with vaccine injuries or long term covid effects, it’s significantly higher than they are reporting in the media, and I think this is the real reason we have so many people claiming sick benefits.

So instead of giving more funding to the NHS to reduce the waiting lists where people need care to treat their illnesses in order to work. The Tories solution is to just work in the first place? I guess if anyone has a job as a teacher or builder and they need a knee replacement surgery they should just "work it off"?

It's now 4-6 weeks JUST for a GP appointment. That's before accounting for further months for subsequent referals to a consultant and then waiting lists for surgery if applicable ffs. For many who may genuinely be too physically and mentally sick to work... Putting in a request for a sick note is all that they have. All that they can immediately do, and all that the NHS can immediately do for them beyond a trip to A&E (and for immediate mental health service referal you have to be an imminent suicide risk). Call a GE. We're done.

That's why the NHS waiting lists are long. If you operate on people, they have to claim the PIP benefit. So, to pay for them we'll take whatever PIP benefits they are getting while they wait for the operation.

Huh, I don’t know 🤔, maybe for some people they’re tired of working every hour for barely enough to live on. Maybe if they’re paid more with the minimum wage increased then tied to inflation, maybe that might work better🤔. I mean, if the minimum wage was, I don’t know, £15 an hour (maintained by taxing the rich more and taxing the profits of larger corporations more), maybe more people might enjoy working more. As they’d be happier not having to work every hour.
