A car-to-car shooting in downtown Los Angeles left one person dead and sent two others to the hospital early Sunday morning, authorities said. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the shooting occurred at the intersection of East 12th Street and Maple Avenue around 12:15 a.m. near The Santee Alley, an outdoor collection of shops in L.A.'s Fashion District.

@KennyFFinn what the other person said is true. The South has the most violent cities and the highest crime rate across the board. I was surprised to find this out myself, but I didn't think of all of the big cities in the South before I read up on it. I don't remember offhand, but I don't think that LA even makes the top ten in crime. It definitely doesn't make the top ten in murders anymore. California as a state doesn't make the top ten in crime, and people in the comments section saying so doesn't make it so. Sorry

Drug use and petty theft , yes, and that's wrong, but they're not letting people go who are busted for violent or serious felonies. I know, and you don't, because if you did, then you wouldn't be saying what you're saying. People are still being struck out in California, and almost all are being sentenced under the second strike law. The bottom line is that there is no longer room to house non violent offenders, so they're given short amount of time in county. California's prison system is more than 150% capacity and the feds are monitoring the state system and are inches away from fully walking in and taking control and have been monitoring the state since 2008. This is the direct result of mandatory minimum prison sentences and three strikes laws. And California STILL has three strikes on the books! The feds did away with mandatory minimum sentences,but not California.

And I'm not sure about all of California, but in LA, violent crimes and murders are down and have been steadily declining. Hey, I agree with you that drug use and misdemeanor crimes should be prosecuted, but as I've previously stated, people convicted of nonviolent crimes are no longer being sent to state prison. I have lived in Orange County since I was 7 years old, bro, and as someone who has grown up in the LA\Orange County metropolitan area, I can tell you that LA was so much worse in the 80s and 90s. The 70s were bad too. LA today is more run down and dirtier, but a lot less violent. There was nowhere NEAR the number of homeless people back then, and they are leaving trash in their wakes. But there's nothing that we can do about the homeless situation because it's a free country and they can go anywhere they choose to, and tens of thousands of homeless from across the country choose to come to California.
