I've been teaching Beowulf to my students for 30 years. These stories, like Sutton Hoo or the Staffordshire Hoard, never cease to amaze me as they bring that magnificent epic poem into life!

I have just finished watching the Time Team Documentary on yet unfinished Replica Boat from Sutton Hoo. The owner an owner of the estate was not the only woman involved in the excavation. Two women who were studying Photography apparently out there shooting roll afte roll for a few years. These two women's dedicated work over a few years, have made measurements of thye rivets and wood possible. Their detailed incredibly astute photos made the ship building possible! How amazing!

I wish they had spent more time unveiling and showing these treasures in The Dig.

A few facts, a lot of hypothesizing and a million questions. The mystery remains and that's what makes it so captivating.

Im here because of the fascinating stories sorry haven't seen the dig but absolutely love time team have done since it first aired on our screens in the 90's completely captivated by the Sutton hoo stories and our heritage. Has anyone seen any of the documentaries on what has been uncovered from the Hs2 Route thats very interesting too❤

Like Survive the Jive pointed out in his "An Eye for Odin" video, one of the eyes did not have gold plating behind the garnets, making the eye appear darker. This was probably a reference to Woden, who sacrificed his eye to Mimir to drink from his well of wisdom.

Digging this all up had to be so fun and exciting! Seeing each item as it was found would have been so extraordinary. I wish I could have been there

This is the exact match to the Staffordshire Hoard. Yet the video about The Hoard never mention Sutton Hoo Ship Burial, the biggest find in Britain in it's time. The Staffordshire Hoard is worth watching as well.

You know, if it wasn’t for a movie on Netflix of all things, I would’ve never known about this. Guess it does come in handy once in a while.

The believe the man in the burial was left handed. Because where the sword was placed and the wear pattern on it. The pummel is sooo close in appearance to the other Saxon hoard.

The metal work is amazing, the way the stones are cut and set is mind* boggling. Someone put many years of love into that mask.

We visited the British Museum in 2015 and if we ever get back to London, we will certainly visit the Sutton Hoo exhibition.

I saw the Sutton Hoo treasures at the British Museum before I saw the film.

The voice of the wearer would echo from within and the facial decor was designed to intimidate which proves that the creator of the character “darthvador” was probably a history student.

Thankfully, Sutton Hoo did not fall prey to treasure pirates over the centuries. Since it was within the boundaries of a private estate, wealthy landowners acted as unwitting caretakers of antiquity.

I drove with my sister to Sutton hoo to deliver exhibition pieces (My sister was a courier) one thing I noticed on the Track was that many of the trees had Mistletoe, lots of it on them. Makes me wonder, with it being The Golden bough and also the dart that killed Balder and On A quick look it is also said that Vikings Believe it to bring back the dead as in the story of Balder. So, if you visit at the right time of year(I think, not being a Mistlexpert) Have A lookup in the trees on the track high up. The place had an atmosphere, even saw a beast loping into the hedgerow. I thought it may have been recycled around the area for centuries-Who knows.

It is amazing that grave robbers never found the treasure.

The helmet might be related to the Swedish vendel helmets. We have found a similiar one here in Sweden. The valsgarde helmet.

Where’s the rest? Imagine what’s still buried out there?

It catches my attention that among the objects in the treasure there is a lyre. A thousand years before, and at quite a long distance (I am referring to the southwest of Iberia in the Tartessian area), the lyre was also a common element which is represented among important dead people. I observe coincidences between cultures belonging to both areas. My idea is that these similarities are due to a common origin of both of them in Scandinavia. Now, what I would like to know is what underlying reason there is for this musical instrument, the lyre, to be one of the frequent elements accompanying the deceased. I would like to hear any comments about this topic. I would appreciate it.

Unfortunately the movie was only loosely based on facts and many events were made up for the film. Most disappointingly Peggy Piggott( played by the beautiful Lily James) didn't really have it off with a airman in an old barn! Lol.

This film kept mentioning the uniqueness of the helmet and the other Sutton Hoo items. They are unique in more ways than one, for example, they weren't stolen from another country.

Most of the gold garnet seal knife heads and buckles they are showing come not from SUTTONHOO . They come from a farmers field off the A1 secret up north location found by amateur Metal detectors ?? So please stop misrepresenting the finds ok
