What do the waveforms in between the components represent? I am confused as it shows the top of the AC wave being clipped off after the resistor / before the diode. Is this correct? If so can you explain how that works? I thought it would have to pass through the diode before the wave would change in that way. Thanks for the content!

Could a half-way rectifier be use as an electromagnet for, lets say, remagnetise a magnet? Or, in other words is the smoothness of the Dc voltage important when using electromagnets? Thank You.

Whats the differences in smoothed voltage between a half wave and full wave rectifier? Is it doubled?
@Tamoor622498
@Tamoor622498 3 жыл бұрын
It would be giving power much more consistently. With the Half-Wave, you could see the capacitor fully losing power and then filling up again, this isn't ideal for most circuits. The Full-Wave IS fluctuation but there is still a consistent base current that's keeping it powered.

You put the capacitor at a wrong place because it is charged over the resistor and thus does not get fast and fully charged. The cap should be after the diode and before the resistor. That way the resistor would limit led current but allow the cap to be charged fully. The fluctuations would be then way lower considering low power demand from the diode.

Did this circuit really need the diode, considering that the LED is a diode in itself?
@dancoulson6579
@dancoulson6579 6 жыл бұрын
For higher voltages, it's preferable, as LED's do not like to be reverse biased. 3v AC is not an issue for an LED, provided the correct resistor is used of course. But if you were to power an LED through a resistor from the mains, during the reverse part of the cycle, the LED would break down, conduct, and get pretty warm. Possibly damaging it.

Again, you are teaching incorrect information. That circuit you show in the beginning is NOT a full-wave rectifier as full-wave rectifier requires a center-tapped power source. What you have in your circuit is actually a full-wave BRIDGE rectifier. It's not a distinction without a difference and it's just as easy to describe what you actually show IF you actually know it. So why the misinformation if it's not just a fundamental misunderstanding by you. I'm beginning to wonder what your actual background/education is in the matter of electronics as I find many issues with your "tutorials." Let's see if my comments stand.
