For pace beads, I use silicone beads and kevlar cordage. I use my own configuration of 4, 3, 4, for 1s 5s 20s, which counts to 100 (10km), or a combination of the two 9, 4, 3, 4, for 1s 10s, 50s, 200s, which counts to 1000 (100km). The silicon beads will slide along the kevlar cordage, but have a firm grip on it to hold their position well too. Cheers.

Use clear nail polish and coat the red markings on the bottom of the base plate. It will stop red markings from wearing away when used often.

The ranger beads just keep track of your pace. They have nothing to do with staying on course.

Your pace count is used to let you know approximately how far you have traveled, which can help you stay on course to a target location. For example, walk 3km along a river until you reach a clearing and then walk 2km north to reach a site.

aquí en mexico, este tipos de brújulas presentan un fallo después de comprarla aproximadamente en 3 meses se presenta una burbuja en la capsula no permitiendo el movimiento de la ajuga o impidiendo el movimiento de esta fui al servicio técnico de aquí en mexico suunto mexico la cual no se hace responsable de este fallo y te alienta que compres otra bujula de otra marca mejor. triste pero cierto no te dejes estafar por esta marca.

The Suunto MC 2G suffers from quality control issues. Mine developed a large bubble after 4 years. Suunto charged me $25 to replace it, plus I had to pay for shipping to send in the bad one. The replacement also failed in under 5 years!!! This is unacceptable and their customer service is useless. I do not abuse my compasses. I have a Suunto M-3 that is 25 years old and is in perfect condition. Think twice before you buy Suunto.

@@wingednomad8423 If you want bomb proof get a Cammenga Lensatic Compass, or get on E bay and find a old Brunton Nexus or a Silva ranger 15 made in Sweden. (not China)

Compass is good to go but the pace beads chuck em I find that with terrain changes it throws it off so drastically its pointless unless you stay on pavement... just remember that declination changes year to year so go online to get latest greatest info on location your going to ...

I purchased one of these and the compass was backwards. The red house is pointing North in this video, but South on mine. No customer support and not even a response. Junk

Hi, recently, I bought the "relatively" new MC-2 G model. The model has a platic needle, but In my opinion, the compass is quite good,. In the website, suunto claims that it has a jewel bearing. For sure, it is not ruby, I can see something which is transparent. Do you know which jewel is it? Thank you so much
