Did you know that there are three ways to make a M1? I demonstrate all three methods in this video, both continental and throwing.

After trying several methods of increased stitches (without the hole being intentional) this is the neatest, least observable method I've come across. Thanks ever so much!

Thank you for such a clear, simple explanation. I'm working on an Interweave pattern which calls for a bit of shaping in the waist area with a few decreases then several inches later increases back to the original stitch count. Your video was clear and concise and the increases look really good. Thanks so much!

Dear Susan, you videos and patterns are awesome, I learned a lot , thank you I want to ask , as you explain in your video, there is a small hole, under the M1 row, not so big , however noticeable especially with stocckinette , is it ok to change this "M1" with "KFB" since they are both makes 1 increase ( asking this for stuffed animal patterns , dont like the M1 hole on them ) ssincerealy

Hi Elegant791! Because of the stretch in stuffed animals, this can become an issue. I have a video with a variety of increase that may assist you. As always, I would swatch different options to see what works best for you. 😊 Here is the video link. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gsV4qJiVm6vclIE.html

Suzzanne I bless the day I discovered your Chanel. You are skillful teacher with best style. On M1L, how do I prevent a hole appearing ? I am knitting gloves on # 6 needles forming the gusset. I’ve used this method previously and not had a problem I do not understand why I’m getting this hole and they’ll be a whole roll of them I appreciate an answer thank you very much

Thank you Suzanne for your teaching. What a treasure trove. I have a question. When did the past tense of the verb to knit lose the last two letters? Is this use, as in ' last week I knit a sweater', a recent change, or has this been a part of American English for a long time. It sounds strange to me. I am from Scotland. I miss the use of the word 'knitted'.
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 2 жыл бұрын
What an interesting question. In English the word knit has two acceptable past tense forms, knit and knitted. They are both acceptable.

Which increase works best with cotton yarn? I'm finding that my usually undetectable increases (not mirrored) have a more slightly pronounced gap that if I use wool. Since this is on the face of a stuffed bear it is more noticeable that what I prefer. I cannot use wool due to allergies of the recipient of the bear.

Fro each person, the answer may be different. I would make a swatch, like the one in this video and try all the increases that you know and see which one you like the best.

I’m doing a M1R followed by a purl stitch, in the round, and my M1R are so loose leaving horrible gaps, any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 2 жыл бұрын
I have tried to mimic this on my own needles, but do not get the same results as you. Maybe your purls are bigger and that yarn is getting pulled into the increase. I answered you in my Facebook group as well. Let us know how it turns out.

When I K1, M1L to create a slanted neckline I'm finding it makes the edge tension really irregular with one very small edge stitch and then an enlarged one the next row? It means when I pick up for the neckline the enlarged stitch leaves a big hole... Any idea where I am going wrong with the increase?

If your pattern only says m1 whats the process please which one of these do they mean a make one how Steven West just casts them one on in his video tortorials? Or how Skeino and Borgue says to think of it as an MB - a "make 1 from the bar below." The question becomes it seems to me is it just about adding without notice. So are you better not connecting it to bar I dont belive thatbleaves a hole? Not certain. Or fabric/from the row below mwking a hole for certain. I assume there is a if not otherwise written do this like slipping purl wise if not stated. Thanks so much. I am challenging myself and working my first pattern without any video tortorials. I guess the question boils down to is the quick instruction just that to just quickly add another live stitch on your needles and not put much thought into it so just cast it on and go on?!?

Typically a M1 is made from the bar below. You can always go to craftyarncouncil.com to see a list of the recognized standard abbreviations and what they mean. Great question.

If a pattern just says M1.... do you knit a m1L or M1R? It isn’t specified

When it is not specified, then you must choose. Try it on a swatch first to see which you prefer. 🧶
