Suzuki Bandit GSF1200S Carby Issues.
Thought it was flooding but turned out to be the rubber caps on the balance tubes had perished and was letting too much air in.

Just a tip, pumping the throttle before starting on a CV carb won't do anything. It has no accelerator pump in it. Slightly turn the the throttle to open the butterflies, and hold it open, again I'll stipulate only slightly, which in turn allows the fuel to be drawn into the combustion chamber, as the piston creates low pressure suction from the pistons stroke.

Thanks MTBEERWAH for the feedback and taking the time to watch my video. I think it's a case of "old habits die hard" with the throttle thing.

Same problem here too amigo on my 2006 bandit 1200...those caps often get blown off .. not sure why but recently i adjusted the valves for 1st time at about 49000miles and it seems to have mitigated the problem..i think it could be combustion gases pushing through improperly shut intake valves and into the carbs..i was replacing those caps with normal tube and screws instead because it happened often through the years..when i took off the valve covers and checked recently i noticed some of the valves has tightened up slightly.. i eased up the clearances to 0.008in for EX (0.007 to 0.009in range) and 0.006 for IN (0.004 to 0.006in range)

2006 bandit and maybe aussie??? lol it's usually the needle and seat that gives you carb drama. the little spring in the needle goes soft over time. replaced mine twice in 100 000kms so not so bad. second time i knew the warning signs. was ridden daily

Hi Psiclone Psikotic, yes definitely Aussie and 2006. My first thought was Idle jet then needle and seat but all was fine. Once the rubber caps were replaced the problem was solved. Have not had another issue since and still ride the old girl regularly. Cheers for the comment.

When you say leaking what were the carbs doing as I think I’ve got a similar problem with my carbs I’m getting fuel leak through the main jet and my float heights are set but there seems to be an air leak on the inlet could it possibly be the balance tubes causing the flooding

Hi gthoshaker, unfortunately no real easy way as far as my carbs went and also had a hard time but I did have a little success using silicone spray on both air box and boots. I dont know if this is a preferred method or not but it certainly helped. good luck and hope this helps.

With the airfilter out, and hoping the mesh has been removed in the airbox, you can use your fingers from inside the airbox to manipulate the rubbers onto the intakes. If the mesh is still in, and you don't want to remove it, smear a bit of oil on the rubbers to allow easier slip.

I have a 2003 bandit 1200s It runs really choppy on start up, choke only engages when it's halfway on and when it does engage the revs jump to 6k rpms... when choke is off it idles around 1500 but dies out... and not just that but the idle is sporadic... what to doooo

Hi SparkySal257, I'm not a mechanic but do like to tinker. For me it was trial and error. I had the carbies off 3 to 4 times, stripping down each time checking jets, seal, gaskets or orings until I found the perished rubbers. This was letting too much air in messing with the mixture. Once the rubber caps were replaced I had no more issues. Sounds like you may have similar issues.

Hi Lindon, I'm certainly no mechanic, but trial and error helped me out. Check the rubber caps like I did, you may have the same issue. I could ride it fine with the choke on but nor with it off. One I changed the rubber caps, problem solved. Good luck, hope this helps.

Still too much gas in the exhaust I think. You have to make it leaner.
@wazzasworkshop4852
@wazzasworkshop4852 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, me not being a Mechanic I tend to look for the obvious and yes I have been told it should be running a bit leaner. My problem is convincing the Minister of Finance that I need to spend money on the Bandit. The bike is 12 years old and in the next year or so I will be giving it a bit of an overhaul once the new shed is built. (this bike will never be sold)

that T hose you replaced, its missing on my bike.. where does it go from the carb?
@wazzasworkshop4852
@wazzasworkshop4852 6 жыл бұрын
MotoSyndicate they are, I think balance tubes, ( i could be wrong ) and go between 1 & 2 as well as 3 & 4 at the top rear of the carbs just below the diaphragm cap. Thoe houses then rout out along the top frame rails under the seat. P.S. i still haven't chsnged the one I butchered in the video and the bike rins fine. Hope this helps.

there is a silver spring that came from somewhere. it's not the bronze spring that goes in the carb. I've looked at the diagram for these carbs and I have everything.

MotoSyndicate hi, I'm not sure about the silver spring either, I will sift through old footage and photos from previous carb strip downs (3 previous) and see what I can find out.

Mine idles at 3000 rpm but it's jetted with aftermarket exhaust. That normal?
@wazzasworkshop4852
@wazzasworkshop4852 4 жыл бұрын
Mine would idle at high revs too and could only ride it with the choke on. I have standard jets but a yoshimura carbon fiber can. Once I sorted out the rubbers which stopped the air leak, now idle is at 1000rpm. I would recommend looking for air leaks.
