Just picked up a 2006 SV after my ZX10R was stolen and its a very underated machine despite my going from a 180bhp to 70bhp bike.

You say that the 'new SV is more upright', but the regular SV 650, non S version, had similar ergonomics. It's only the new discontinued S version that had the clip ons and thus the more forward riding position.

This is why I want the old early 2000s sv650, the ones with angular looking frame

The new SV is the best bike in its class. IMO.

Only two of my motorcycles have ever had a fuel gauge, and one a fuel light. In all the others, the trip meter has basically become a fuel gauge :D Except now that one of them had the trip meter fail, too, so in the end I just ride until it starts coughing, switch to reserve and then I know there's about 80 km left until it's dry. :) I never get stranded!

Great vlog. Having bought an sv650s for the exact reasons you mentioned the wife loved 'borrowing' it so much she had mine and I bought a Diversion. Love em both (the bikes not the wife) lol

I got a 1999 SV650s. Great bike. Though I am only 5'4, it actually feels tiny even to me but that was coming from owning a bandit 600 previously. I think I prefer the bandits but the SV is way more fun off the line.

I've got an SV650 K8 and tried the Gladius when it came out. Both naked. For me the Gladius felt like a toy bike compared to mine: both styling, ergonomics and sound-wise. I wonder if this new SV is a successor to the Gladius or the old SV?

Like a fairing myself. Keeps the cold and rain off and on a windy day you'll notice it too.

The new one might have 75hp as opposed to the old one, but that's nothing when you've got the aerodynamics of an Ikea wardrobe! Pointy any day for me thanks!

The SV650 was almost the bike i bought. Found one online. But they sold it before i could get it. I was looking for a small enough bike i get ok gas mileage. But not so small its weak. I did want anything smaller then a 650cc. But i ended up getting the FZ700. Only because they sold the SV650 before i could get it. But i am very happy with my FZ700. Not to big, not to small.

I love the character of the SV's and I was in the same boat a few months ago, 5K budget and wasn't sure what to get. In the end I got myself a 14 plate XJ6 diversion F with 519 miles on the clock for a fiver under 5k, years warranty, the bike had some extras as well but due to ill health the previous owner had to give up biking so I got a cracking deal from the dealer. I wanted to add a couple of things to the new SV650 and it would have been almost 800 quid over the 5k budget I had but couldn't be happier with the Yamaha. Such a capable bike in all conditions.

***** I didn't get a chance to test ride the new SV unfortunately so I can't compare both bikes but with the Diversion being a fully faired bike it's made a massive difference to my enjoyment of it, I had a recent trip across the west coast of Scotland and on a naked bike it would have been horrendous in some of the wind and rain but then that's no fault of the SV's, any naked would be the same haha! I can't fault the Yamaha one bit though, the finish is spot on, I've done almost 3000 miles since I got it in late June and it's never missed a beat, definitely a bike I'd recommend. I did train on an older SV 650 and love the V-Twins but the inline 4 has a lot of torque further down the mid range. The engine was based on the 2006 R6 lump as well so it sounds immense when you open it up, sorry mate I've rambled on a bit haha. I suppose you could say the bike has made quite an impression on me!
@pg88corfu
@pg88corfu 7 жыл бұрын
It's OK bro, i am glad to hear all that impressions of yours with the Diversion! It is one hell of a motor , and one of the last ones purists inline 4 only bit downgraded from FZ6 fazer . I consider buying it, very good value for money, and sure it will be a classic in some years , because now it is a trend all those 2cyl engines inline like the MT-07 which was Torquey as SHIT but that sound reminds me of a cab :P ahahhaha Anyway i search for a light nimble quality bike as i want it to last , and think between the new SV650 ABS and the Diversion ABS( 2nd hand) , or MT-07 as the last choice.(if only i could afford a Striple 675 ;) ) MT felt like a bicylce when i rode it in terms of dimensions and weight , but i think the SV should be heavy , 25 kg more on paper than the MT. What about the Diversion ???? Light enough???

are all the new sv650 bikes the same power or is one for learners and have different power? im in Australia and there only seems to be the learnes (restricted) bike.
@mmdirtyworkz
@mmdirtyworkz 7 жыл бұрын
They all produce the same hp. In your country they are restricted for learners. Once you get the full licence you can un-restrict it (I'm not sure).
@TheDeceptikron
@TheDeceptikron 7 жыл бұрын
it costs a lot of money to unrestrict them. Youre better off getting a cheaper bike to learn on like a GN250 and then trading up to an SV650 if thats the way you want to go. Im in NZ and we have the LAMS and the full power versions. Mine is full power and matte black.

TheDeceptikron yeah sucks we dont have the full powered version. wierd we dont considering new zealand does.
@TheDeceptikron
@TheDeceptikron 7 жыл бұрын
They also dont all make the same horsepower, one makes 35Kw, the other makes 55Kw so Ive read. I know what watching videos of the LAMS model that they dont have the pull like full power does in the top end of the rev range.

I'm an old rider and ride a B-King and MT-01. No fairings, no moaning. EDIT: regarding seats; If they slope you into the tank like my MT-01's does, they're uncomfortable. My B-King's seat does not do this, therefore it is comfortable for big mileage. None of the above has anything to do with the age of the rider. You may find this out in the future. And I've certainly ridden a hell of a lot more miles than you.
@mmdirtyworkz
@mmdirtyworkz 6 жыл бұрын
To say you certainly rode more miles is a fart in the wind, no way to check that. Stupid thing to claim when you don't know the other person. Older - wiser? NO

@@richardcarr6493 It worked out really well. I can’t say whether Zoran’s swap is better than one of the cartridge kits as I haven’t tried them, but it is a night and day difference from the stock pogo sticks the bike comes with.

The early SVs had carbs and were much easier to fix. I'm looking to change my Homda crossrunner for an SV but I know my mates will laugh. Low tech means home servicing. I have a nice 96 Gpz500s with 30k. Goes like the clappers for a tiddler. My 2012 Honda vfr800x crossrunner on the other hand is a pig on rollerskates in comparison. A dealer plug in bike.🫣
