Did you get the 125 or the 200? Only asking as I’m thinking of getting one but the 200 is hard to find. I’ll be mainly riding in and around London, hardly ever take it on motorways (I’m not one for long rides and camping lol), at best it might be to see the odd mate about 1hr /1.5hr away and that’s it. How you finding it? Any issues? How is it to fix stuff?

​@@friktionrc I got the 125 and I must say it is so reliable. Will take you anywhere anytime. Had no issues so far although I've even travelled longer distances. But get other than the original tires if mostly you're riding on roads.

That's a great purpose for this bike if your RV is fine with the weight. It's nice for two people to explore on and we have had 200 mile days on this bike without trouble. The comfort is good and it's a good bike to explore on when you park up and don't want the big RV for the store run. Best of luck with it and I'd love to hear your thoughts or maybe a review when your 200 is nicely run in.

Thanks for your comment. I've had so many 125's now and this really is the best built one I have had in a while. I sold a Honda CB125F recently as it was rusting away on the "Stainless steel" exhaust and both sets of foot pegs at only 3 months despite ACF treatment. Such a shame as it was a good bike but this blows it away. It's not as quick or fuel efficient as some but it's so capable and nice to live with. No wonder Suzuki kept it going for so long.

Thanks for your comments. It's going to be an interesting time to see what the manufacturers do about the new regulations with combined/abs brakes. I'm not sure where the abs modulator is on bikes with abs? Maybe it's under the seat but won't that mean a load of existing models will get discontinued? Ride safe and thanks again

I know Suzuki's inazuma being discontinued because of failing emissions and possibly Honda's Forza 300cc. I think your right will be some new models out come November and a lot discontinued, go steady.

Michael Evans following up on our 2017 Euro 4 discussion, we traded the Vanny for a new model scooter so my girlfriend can come touring this year. I'll let you know my findings soon now that it emits less emissions. What a load of tosh eh?

Thank you Jules. I think it merits a mention about the build quality on this bike as it is particularly good. It's lovely to see the words 'Made in Japan' under the seat however, we all need to open our minds in the future to other countries as they too are beginning to build good bikes. I have had good experiences with bikes from Vietnam (PCX), Thailand (Innova 125i) and indeed China (Honda CB125F and Wave 110i). I remember as a boy listening to people discussing Japanese cars and bikes like they were second rate and look at the quality now. All good experience and shows its good to keep an open mind with country of origin. Best regards

Agree 100% with that Scooty Man, I'm particulary impressed with the Thailand sourced MSX125. How do you rate the Wave 110i? I'm a big fan of the C90, but hard not to be attracted by the modern equiverlent's MPG and increased speed (probably not often that's said about a 110cc machine!)

+Jules Hatton it's really funny you should mention the C90 and the Wave 110i. I'm planning a tour for 2017 and those two bikes are in the back of my mind. I can buy a nice condition low mileage c90 for around £2000-£2500 and yet as you mentioned the Wave 110i is faster, has better suspension etc and of course can be had for between £1800-£2000 brand new. I have had two Wave 110i's and I rate them highly. What you get is basic but of good quality with a brilliant engine and nice riding position. I'm considering buying one and building it into my ideal bike. I'm thinking Cerakote on the exhaust to stop the rust, more seat padding, spoked wheels with alloy rims, 120cc big bore kit, bigger front sprocket, YSS rear shocks, a decent screen and maybe braze a custom rack with pannier pads each side to stabilise the pannier movement. Oh and of course, lighting and a front rack too. All in the thought stage right now though and my love for this little bike is not done yet. Best regards

It was a Koso and I picked up the feed for the tacho from the coil which if i remember correctly was under the tank. Hope that helps

Der_Kreuzer its called a Kriega Tailpack. They come in various sizes from 10-40 litres. Not cheap but well made in fact engineered! I would recommend it although one thing to bear in mind. It's good when it's full up but not so easy to secure on a rack when half empty. Hope that helps

Hi Peter. Thank you for your comments. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the VanVan. Firstly, I'd like to mention there is an excellent uk forum for the VanVan and they are mainly helpful plus there's an online manual there. Secondly, please don't worry about the VanVan overheating for two reasons. First one is that I have ridden two up down the M3 motorway for 30 miles in mid summer this year and my temp gauge only made it up to 105 - 108 degrees at top speed and in traffic. Also, it will be comforting for you to know there is a temperature sensor on the back of the cylinder on the FI models (fuel injection which yours will be if new) and that monitors and changes the engine settings if things get hot. I change my oil every 1000 miles to keep it nice with good quality semi synthetic which also reduces the possibility of a seizure due to low oil level. Sorry Peter, I just read your post again. How far in one stretch? I would say there is no limits to how far you can take it. There were two Eastern European girls that toured thousands of miles on VanVan's. The engine is built to rev high and there is a rev limiter at 10k rpm anyway. A good mod to do is change the front sprocket for one with one tooth less. This will TRANSFORM your VanVan into a willing rev free bike that feels happier to pull right through the rev range. So in short, ride as far as you can, it will be fine. Ride safe

+peter ryan Hi Peter. Absolutely no problem for asking and if you lived closer I'd say bring it round and I'll do it for you. I don't know your weight but some of the heavier riders like me. Find that the bike runs out of puff around 50 mph and won't pull well in sixth gear. The answer is the new front sprocket with one less tooth. I don't see any reason why that should invalidate the warranty. You are not changing the engine at all, simply the gear ratio overall creating the effect of more torque at the rear wheel. If you find that on the flat, your bike will pull happily through to 65mph then probably there is no need but otherwise it's a great mod to do. You will have a lesser top speed but to be honest, the VanVan is designed to cruise around on at say a comfy 50 mph in any case. Also you will find that a screen will help greatly in your progress with acceleration. The lower gearing is great for green lanes and gravel roads too. Best regards

Hello Beagleman, I think RJ might be referring to the way the fat tyres make the bike handle/feel. I notice it when I jump off the VanVan and onto the S Wing scooter that I have. With the VanVan you have to make a conscious effort to 'steer' the bike. The fat tyres make the steering feel like it's a little lethargic but once you're used to it you grow to love it. One thing I disagree with RJ over actually because it's easier to control in my opinion and much less wobbling at low speed with those wide bars. I actually like the way it feels and whilst it's not an outright off road bike, it feels nice and stable on gravel and dry dirt trails. You need to ride one and then try maybe a Yamaha YBR and you will instantly understand the point that RJ was making. Hope that helps and best regards

+Beagleman1996 yes, once again I think they have a time and a place i.e London centre in rush hour for a bit more presence but when I tour around I really couldn't stand 110 db in my ears all day long. I think it would drive you insane and the novelty would soon wear off in that situation. I'm currently looking at having my exhaust powder coated to stop any rust from developing. There's a coating called Cerakote which I am considering and I'll make a video of that if I go ahead. Scooty Man Well I'm currently studying at the University of Southampton, and trust me, I would absolutely love to ride the VanVan since a 125cc Motorcycle is definitely a potential avenue I'm considering for future transport, assuming a job requires a lot of urban commuting, but I fear that, since I haven't even taken my CBT (let alone academic work and even what my parents would think; they, understandably, would cite safety concerns) that might not be a very good idea, although numerous Motorcyle Vlog videos have taught me how to ride a geared bike, and I've held a manual car licence for two years. i would, it's a very forgiving bike, but with recent developments is becoming fairly expensive to get stock parts

terrytrooper2 Hi Terry. No problem. I used a Koso one. I believe it was the one that displays up to 10K rpm and had a temp display which I used for the oil temp. I bought mine from digital speedos (.co.uk). They were very helpful and if I remember rightly I made up the bracket to fit it to the bike with a small piece of aluminium which I cut and shaped. If you use the oil temp then I would recommend you put a piece of rubber (bicycle inner tube works great) around the sensor to stop the wind chill affecting the reading. Stephen Jackson congratulations! It's a lovely bike in fantastic condition. I changed the oil a couple of weeks ago(every 500 miles in fact) and adjusted the chain etc before I took it to dobles. I have a few accessories you can have in my garage if you want. I've got a fender extender for the front mudguard, the screen that I took off and if you'd like a set of motorcycle stands you're welcome to those too. They are just collecting dust in my garage so you'd be welcome to have those bits if you wanted them. I can assure you that I looked after that bike so well. I traded it for a new model just in and was sad to see it go really but i had decided it wasn't much good for the touring I do. No other reason. It spent all of its life in a garage and the owner before me was a lovely fella up in Hinckley. He mothered it too! It has a smaller front tooth sprocket and heavy duty chain kit from DID fitted also. PM me if you'd like the accessories and best regards

Stephen Jackson also, I will add to my original reply, just to let you know that the rev counter was properly hard wired. I took the tank off and routed all the cables nicely, soldered all the joints (none of those nasty scotchlocks) and fused it properly too. The rev counter bracket I made myself and make sure you leave the piece of rubber tubing over the oil temperature sensor. If you remove it the wind cools the sensor and it won't read correctly. The 12 volt socket is three separate pieces of cable cut to fit the bike and soldered in place to make a nice job. I really hope it serves you well. You won't regret having a VanVan in your life for however long you own it. All the best

It's actually the perfect bike for this and it's one you might like to keep after passing your test. I have been doing some gentle off road/green landing on mine and I'm working on a video now. It's a real nice bike for touring too. Buy one, you won't regret it. Ride safe

Stephen Jackson it's fine in the wet if you take it steady and don't try to get your knee down. ;) Like any bike with semi off road tyres, get your braking done before the corner, take the corner, bike upright, power back on. I hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs here by the way. Tyre pressure is critical. 18 psi back and front, no more, no less (they are low pressure balloon tyres). I found that either way severely effects the handling. Get yourself on the VANVAN forum. It's a little bit "clicky" I found but they are harmless enough and happy to help.

Sadly I did. I wasn’t so well with rheumatoid arthritis and I never thought I’d be well enough to ride a bigger bike. Along came biological immunosuppression and passed my A license and got a CBF 1000! Since then I went into a Pan European (ST1100) which I also loved for the build quality. Just for giggles, what’s in my garage now? Well there’s three bikes. A Honda Vision 110 (still) an Aprilia SRGT200 which I love and I’ve just got into the older German stuff. I have a BMW R1150RT. I’m sure one day I’ll get back into the KZfaq thing but for now I’m way too busy sadly. Best regards

Nathan Holland Hello Nathan, Thanks for your message. You will be fine with height on this bike and your weight won’t be a problem either. One recommendation I would make to you would be to change the front sprocket to one tooth less than standard as these bikes don’t pull well with the standard gearing. Add a small screen or a taller Givi screen and you will fly along. The VanVan by nature is quite high geared out of the factory and in my opinion struggles to make progress before switching to a lower gearing (the front sprocket mod). When I bought this one, I rode it from Rugby all the way back to Farnborough and it had no get up and go. At that moment I thought what have I bought! It struggled to go over 55 mph with me on board alone BUT change the sprockets as I have mentioned and it will pull much better and you’ll hit the rev limiter in top at around 68 mph. You will really enjoy the VanVan and have loads of fun on it I’m sure. If I can be of any further help just drop me a message. Best regards

I average around 90mpg. That's an imperial gallon btw in case you live in US, 4.546 litres approximately. It's not so bad considering the bike has a huge rear tyre that inevitably creates more drag. You only have to look at the Honda CB125F mpg to confirm that with its 90/90-18 rear tyre.
