In my own experience, new Suzuki Vitara is absolutely amazing car in so many respects! I've bought mine Vitara, middle trim level, 1.6 petrol GL+ version with so many accessories like rear camera, adaptive cruise control, Bluetooth connection, great large infotainment screen, automatic climate control, heated seats, and so on... I'm driving this car for somewhat about six months and I'm thrilled about how great it handles in so many different situation's and roads! And I'm driving a lot! I'm also satisfied with it's cool robust design, both outside and inside! It definitely stands out in the ocean full of dull SUV-s like Nissan Quasqai, Peugeot 2008, Captour, Mokka, ... I'm sure this car has it all majority of regular drivers really need, except for those extremely spoiled ones who can't live with some plastics in Vitaras interior! Hard plastics?!! Huge deal! Like as if the real drivers who appreciate Vitaras really awesome driving experience does care about that! Soft interior materials, as much classy as they appear, are also prone to much easier damaging and aging while this hard plastics is something buildt to last for very long period! What really matters is that Suzuki Vitara is so fun and competent car to drive, has a huge list of standard equipment even in lower trim levels and is much cheaper than so many European brands that usually offer less for much more money! And I don't know if anyone mentioned it before, but Suzuki made cars are among the most reliable ones in the world! According to international statistics, published this year, Suzuki cars, as far as I can remember, end up first (or second?) on the list with the fewest car failures on the 100.000 kilometers leaving likes of VW, Opel, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, and many other car brands far behind! I would definitely recommend new Suzuki Vitara to anyone without any hesitation!

By far the best review of this vehicle i have seen on KZfaq , i am one of these elderly people you spoke about, and I do not think we would easily be be confused by Suzuki software, but saying that you have been most informative, as I need a 4wheel drive I will definitely consider buying this vehicle.

I've been driving a 1.6 petrol (2 WD, 6-speed automatic transmission - AT) Comfort+ (called GLX in Hungary) version of Vitara now for 3 months (through cca. 5600 km). Just adding my experiences with this car. The AT really does not have that more fuel consumption (only +2-3 dl/100 km compared to MT). For this 5600 km I had overall average fuel consumption of 6.4 l/100 km, most of it (approx. 3800-4000 km) in city (Budapest). The AT gearbox works really quick, smooth and nice, it gives some advantage at races starting from red lights. :) Programming of the gearbox is very smart, it helps braking the car on downhills when the gas is taken away, by switching back. What I don't like regarding the gear is its manual mode: for me this mode is practically unusable because of the location of its buttons. I simply can't get hold of it with my fingers: I have to release the wheel which is not safe. But hey, this is an automatic unit, who cares about the manual mode? :) The traditional petrol engine is quite responsive and agile, accelerates as it is supposed to, and what was very suprising for me at the first time: it is damn quiet. In acceleration it has a deep sound like some purring big cat, but in steady speed I simply can't hear it. This is true up to 3000-3200 rpm, which is equal to 110-120 kmh; above that the engine noises up. In fact the engine is so quiet on lower rpms that I can hear the AT gearbox working: it has a ghostly sound I can say. :) The adaptive tempomat is for "Die Autobahn" imho: but be careful when using it on snowy road, as it can accelerate the car very suddenly (e.g. when you start an overtake of a slower vehicle) and that might lead to surprises on slippery surfaces. The suspension imho is hard: it shall be as the car is tall. To tell the truth, I was switching from a year 2007 Swift to Vitara, and my old Swift had really soft suspension. But this suspension handles bumps and holes well (Budapest has really awful roads), although it drives some noises inside. In a country having better roads this would not be a problem I think. The sound of the index (I mean the direction indicator) seemed for me a normal Suzuki sound I got used to in the last 16 years. Of course if Autogefühl dislikes it, it is his right; but probably all Suzuki cars have this sound. :) I was really glad to hear the Diesel version in movement and I must agree with Autogefühl: I'm not fan of it and it is because of the noise. Diesel units come from Fiat for the Vitaras, while petrol units are from Suzuki. Suzuki origin , for me , is a guarantee of reliability and durability, based on 16 years experience; however I'm curious how the new BoosterJets (the turbos) will perform regarding these features, including the 1.4 l units and 1.0 l units that are used in new Celerios. Oh, and one more thing: the insert of the seats (the middle) in Comfort+ level Vitaras is not leather but Alcantara. This synthetic holds the body very well tight, no slips, no unwanted movements in curves or brakings while it has a very good touch. Altogether it is a damn good feeling to drive this car and I'd buy it once again.

I've always liked Vitaras, but this new one is particularly appealing, far better for urban and road use than the old one. I think it is one of the best looking cars out there right now, especially in its class and price range. Here in Hungary Suzukis have an undeserved reputation for being a poor man's car, but I think the new Vitara will help shift perceptions. Since the car is made locally, you can actually get an already well-equipped mid range 1.6 petrol for around 14000 EUR with dealer discounts over here. Seriously tempted.

You criticized the ACC for disabling below certain speed, but isn't that how they always work with manual transmission?

All of the color coordinated interior parts, I wonder if they ever make a mistake at the factory? :-) Never seen square cup holders before. Maybe good to hold box wine? I think I've seen the test of Vitara S a few months ago on your channel, but now can't find it...

Much to my own surprise, I actually like the color! :-) It looks like quite a nice car to me. Even though I am personally not into the trendy bi-color stuff (especially not in the interior) I think it is great that they offer it. The biggest negative I see is the engine. The rather agricultural sounding diesel, nor the weak naturally aspirated petrol appeal to me. So my hopes would be for the turbo engine to be really good.. BTW: I really liked the view in the countryside at the end there!

Ciao Thomas. You'd like the sound of the turn signal indicator in my BMW 👍🏻 I know what you mean - I too would be bothered by something like that. Same with the vehicle warning chimes. Again, very well done in Bayerische 😸 (I've seen videos of the sound engineer that develops interior sounds for BMW. Very interesting). Suzuki no longer sells autos in Canada. They pulled out only a few years ago. Nice motorcycles - I used to own a GSXR-750 sport bike aka crotch rocket.

Thomas, why do you emphasise the need for soft-touch, high-quality plastic material for the dash surface in nearly all your reviews? Does the softness of the dash surface really matter to drivers on a daily basis? I rarely touch the top of my dash, and when I do, it's mostly to clean it. Let me know what you think? I own the 1.6 petrol SZ-T model and love it. Nippy engine modern looks, space is reasonable around 44mpg, very well equipped for the price, including a rear view camera, sat nav, DAB radio, bluetooth, phone connections, cruise control it goes on and on, yes it could do things a bit better in some places, a 6th gear, a folding key or keyless entry as standard for example and ditch the tyre inflation and put a spare wheel in it! Would I buy another, absolutely.

Old hat design. Looks like time traveler from the 90s

I'm looking to buy a new car soon, looking at Vitara/sx4 cross 1.4 aut / Renault Kadjar 1.2 EDC / Kia Niro midtrim / kia Soul 1.6 turbo, i can get them all for more or less same price, i never drove any of them, like them all from the looks, like the Kia's a bit more inside, the Vitara from outside, and the Kadjar from the size, since i'm a heavy guy off 1.86, i off course need to consider size and load weight and the the Niro might exclude itself with 430kg, i drive a Ford S-max 2.0 trend powershift and a old Touran (2004) 2.0 Tdi DSG Highline, so i'm use to BIG space, and quite ok engines, with enough horsepower for me, i need the car to be able to have clients and adault family. Which to choose ? PS. you do fantastic reviews, best on youtube ;)

When I had a look around and inside Vitara (I believe it was lower trim level than this one) - it felt so unbelievably cheap and low quality that even Ssang Yong being sold in same venue looked much much better. Every part was wobbly, as if interior trim was not fixed to the body, but was just shoved inside and hooked together somehow. The door would not close... unless slammed really hard. And the sound of door closing was that of empty stampted steel gas canister. Door handles straight from 90s, misc buttons look like they don't belong to this model. It even smelled funny inside. I literally wanted to wash my hands after this one. Even my old Peugeot 307 seemed not that bad comared to this thing. Literally, the only car that is worse than this is SX4.

No Boosterjet :( I imagine it's hard to find. Dealers in my country don't have the 1.4 version, so you can't try it, and there are almost no reviews of it.

Well, I guess you can't deny that it has character. It's kind of a statement to drive in a car with this interior. From Suzuki's viewpoint it's not an odd strategy imho. I mean, when you want to buy a car in this segment, how many people actually consider the Vitara? Let's be honest, not many. With this look, at least they appeal to the people that like giving out the aforementioned statement or at least like driving something that looks totally different. A car like this will sell better than a car that people find ok, but in the end won't pick and instead go for one of the many strong competitors like the Qashqai, CX-3, Captur, Yeti, etc.
