Suzuki Vitara offroad

We sometimes get comments that car tests that include off-roading don't feature terrain that is challenging enough, even though I always warn everything looks more docile on video than it really is. So I took a Suzuki Vitara and drove to an unfinished off-road track, then placed a driving instructor behind the wheel, so he can explain how to do proper off-roading.

When i got the new Vitra just some days ago it was brand new... Just 30 minutes after i took it, it was already covered in mud even on the roof. And in the afternoon i went in the mountains and crossed a river with the water level almost to the hood of the car. Happy to be in the 2% that uses the car properly, even tho im aware that it's not a proper off roader, but it's surely fun to challenge it where other cars would not be able to go

I watched as the Suzuki 4WD locked up some airborne wheels a few times to achieve traction. That is highly desirable. When the car makes the session look so easy, of course people are going to say 'too easy'. Instead of going up and over the course, it really looked like you should have criss-crossed and found somthing that the car couldn't do. Impressive capabilities for somebody that actually knows how difficult the course was and looked like it was hardly challenged.

Well done review. Appreciated. Presented offroad track and driving on it Vitara, clearly ilustrates for what type of offroad this car has been designed. So if the driver has good skills and is driving smoothly, Vitara will not disapoint anybody.

Suzuki and Subaru are the only car makers in the small/midsize SUV segment, which spend their money on a descent 4wd system👍👏 rather than on heaps of soft touch materials.

They also get a lot of flak and all sorts of nonsense for these decisions. You should check comments on videos of Maruti Suzuki cars and see how badly Suzuki's Indian arm gets thrashed for 'hard' plastics

Dacia Do reasonably with the duster. Admittedly the 4x4 is from the Nissan Xtrail.

Subaru my long term choice. A car I would trust to last many years, long after paying for it. Thats the key, not trading in, not having monthly payments all your life for a car.

Great car. Ideal for all weather and road conditions, and with some decent tyres it makes a sensible choice for anyone who may live in hilly rural areas where roads can be bad in winter, with snow or heavy rain or muddy etc. Id probably go for a Subaru though as I prefer the character of boxer engines.

@@Pit-Stop Not many Vitara owners will do offroad (although it's very capable). So in the event they'll have to go offroad, it would be occasional, they won't be particularly skilled driving off road.

Ho preso la Duster GPL e sto avendo un sacco di problemi al motore. (v. Gruppo Facebook DACIA GPL NON CONFORME) Alla fine la Vitara mi veniva solo 2500€ in più col ritiro dell'usato, e con il 1.0 risparmi di assicurazione e probabilmente anche sui consumi. Pensateci se siete in tempo!

@@Bicada yeah I know it is but like I said was it in "AUTO OR MANUAL MODE"..not was IT an auto or a manual?? 🙄....normally when your off road in a auto it gets confused to what gear it needs to be in so it's sometimes better in manual mode....thats the reason for my question. Ya need to read things pal. 🙄

Actually, 98% of drivers not using their vehicles to their true potential is a good thing. As a 4x4 off-roader, some of my equipment is only used in emergencies.

Maybe you are right, I have a 2017 allgrip 1.6 Vitara but first wanted a Duster. I really liked the Duster but I finally choose Vitara because of much better onroad passive and active safety features. (active radar for example) Vitaras offroad capability is enough for me, onroad the Suzuki 4wd system that is used adds more to safety than Dusters 4wd system. Btw I raised effective ground clearance with 35 mm, slightly bigger tyres (215/60/17 = +10mm) and taller springs (Eibach +25mm, 250 euro) so now effective ground clearance probably the same as standard Duster. And over 12000km fuel consumption is 5.9l/100km overall which is very ok for me. (city,highway and some offroad , in Romania btw, all mixed). I am very happy with the Vitara at 16.000 euro. @@flyingdutchman4you You made a good decision. Duster is only for Offroad. On road, in the city traffuc especially it is a nightmare. It is so heavy to operate, to manouver. It is like you are driving a Toyota landcruiser. And for 95% of the offroad situations, the Vitara is ok

@Marcus Salem I work at a construction company and we have many Duster exactly for offroad. We have 2 colegues with Vitara and we compared them. Duster, with the right tyres, is way better than vitarra offroad. You said it yourself - ground clearence. If this is not a major difference in offroad.... But, onroad, they are exactly the opposite, Vitara is a pleasure to drive in town In Romania we have many Duster clubs that have on youtube films in hard offroad. Check them on youtube. NO Vitara can go where these boys go If you want to compare the 4x4 sistems I tell you that subaru imprezza is better than Vitarra and Duster. But that doesn't make it an offroader Duster is THE ONLY suv that is capable to go after a Toyota Landcruiser
