Dangerous, that's a bit of an exaggeration. The Z400 handles pretty darn well from the factory. That being said, the Z400 stock suspension features standard preload style shocks. Adding or taking away preload from the Springs will have a slide effect on the ride height of the machine. It will also have an equal effect on How firm or plush the ride is. The shocks we put on this machine had a zero preload style set up. This allows you to raise or lower the ATVs ride height without adversely affecting the ride quality as much. You can reduce the pre lit on your stock Springs and lower the ride height but it will become much softer. If you want to lower your Z 400 ride height without softening the ride you will need to look at aftermarket suspension. Elka can set you up with all three shocks for under a grand. I hope this helps. We're not sure if anyone is making different swingarms for the KFX700 anymore.. It would be a rad project though.
