MPS Digital Photography presents a talk with Bill Armstrong, an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer. Armstrong’s work is represented by ClampArt in New York, Dolby Chadwick in San Francisco, Hackelbury Fine Art in London and Alessia Paladini Gallery in Milan. His Infinity series has been exhibited in over 30 solo and 100 group exhibitions over the past 25 years. Armstrong’s work was featured in A Matter of Light: Inside the Vatican Museums, a special project shot in the Sistine Chapel that is a permanent installation in the Vatican Museums in Rome. His work is in many museum collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Getty Center, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the Bibliotheque Nationale de France. His photographs have been published in more than 15 books on photography, including the cover of Lyle Rexer’s Edge of Vision, The Rise of Abstraction in Photography.
Armstrong is on the faculty of International Center of Photography and was on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts from 2003-2022.
Starting in 2011 and after over 200 lectures, the i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration Lecture series continues to feature leading photographers, artists, editors, gallerists and industry experts. Our Summer 2024 i3 Lecture season is curated and hosted by MPS Digital Photography faculty member Julie Grahame. Most past lectures are available on KZfaq and Vimeo.

There's so much more in the images than is said. The distance between what seems to be there and what's there invites one to fresh perceptions. The colors emotionalize interpretations of a constructed non-real that suggests a real-real. Surrealist theory transformed.

I don't know if it's morbid or inappropriate to say so, but perhaps Trent Parke and Bill Armstrong should engage, as they both cite their mother's death as catalysts.
