Svartpilen 401 - Installing Husqvarna Bar End Mirrors

Күн бұрынFinally installed new mirrors. I wanted to try them first in the downward ram position, but I'll probably swap them to be up. I want to see what all the fuss is about and how much you actually can/cannot see in the ram position.
I ordered some plugs to try for where the old mirrors were. I opted not to go with four mirrors (I had joked about leaving the original mirrors on and riding with four mirrors, but ... maybe later).
Note: Mirrors are a simple DIY project. Lots of options is probably the hardest part.

Hi. I had those mirrors facing down, but had to change it up. Couldn’t see anything, but when I put them up I see everything perfectly, better than with the stock ones. They look cool when down, but I had to move my head down to see anything and also while doing tight turns in slow speed with a full lock they would hit my knee..

Same. I swapped them after a short 20 minute test. It’s basically like riding with no mirrors in the downward position. I swapped them up and they work brilliantly.

Getting the bike on the stand like that works like a charm.... until it doesn't. You need to make sure the handlebar/front wheel doesn't turn. If the front wheel turns right, the bike will roll away from your body and... you can guess the rest. Same goes for when you get it off the stand. You can keep doing it and feel it's fine... until that one time when it won't be.

My right side mirror wouldn’t loosen and then the bolt snapped ☠️. At least it doesn’t matter since I have the bar end mirrors installed now. Still what a cheap bolt

Right side the bolt rotates the opposite way (righty loosey, instead of lefty loosey). I almost busted mine until I realized it probably spins the other direction. It trips up a lot of us. If you can still get a grip on it, you can maybe still get it out.

Good job! I purchased the bar end mirrors from Husk and really like them. I got some plugs from the dealer and it got rid of the holes where the stock mirrors were placed and like it. Can't wait to hear what you think about the mirrors while riding. It improved my visibility because my shoulders and elbows are not in the way now. Also, it cleaned the look of my bike up. On another note, how many miles do you have on the bike now and what year is your bike? Thanks

I’m just forecasting that I will switch them to the up position; I’m guessing I will prefer the view with them up. But I don’t know yet. I’ll give it a week or so like this. Sadly, I haven’t been able to ride yet because I pulled a muscle in my neck. So dumb! It’s just sitting out there calling to me. I should be fine in a few days and can hit the road.

The inside of the handlebar of my 401 (2022) looks exactly like yours. I just bought two of these mirrors, but I didn't get the spacer key in the mirror box. Did you get them inside the highsider mirror box? I didn't get an extra bolt & spacers with the mirror! Did you buy the mirrors directly from Husqvarna? Wondering if they added the bolt and spacer alongside the original highsider mirror themselves, since they know this model doesn't need the original metal mounting system

Got mine on eBay, but it did have the spacer along with bolt and parts to replace the weights and everything. I only used the spacer and mirror, then just reused the stock bolt. It was the “Husqvarna” mirror so maybe as you said that’s why it had the spacer, etc.

I couldn’t remove the Allen screws. I tried and it stripped it. I think they over tightened at the factory. Now I can to take it to get repaired

Ugh same here. End bolt on the right side came off incredibly easily, but the left side was impossible and I stripped it. Not sure what I’m going g to do about it.

Different topic, but what do you have for swingarm spools? I just got one of these and I've heard you have to put them in and take them out each time you put it on a stand? Has that been your experience or did you find something you can leave in? Thanks!

Ahh, I have a video on this as well. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbubjc-T39DIe5s.html In the description of that video I list out the parts I used. Note: I leave the spools on. If your bike compresses a lot (depending on your weight and suspension settings), you may want to remove the spool on the right side so that it doesn’t bump into the exhaust pipe. That’s not a problem for me, but it could be for some people. That right spool is super easy to remove so it’s not a big deal.

I think you forgot to remove the right side mirror's bottom screw mount (the long silver nut)

LOL - Yes, it's stuck, so I left it on for now. I have a hurt neck, so once I'm healed up I'll give it a go. Drove me crazy, but I'll get it off once I'm 100%

What happened to the huge silver part that was attached to the mirror? Is that not needed at all?

I didn’t use it. I still have it, but I just left the handlebar weights that were in there because it was a nice fit as is without pulling that part out. The main bolt goes right in and fits snug.

Did that spacer for the throttle side come with them, or is that something that you already had?

The spacer pieces came with the bar ends that I ordered. It was in the same plastic bag as the new bolts that came with the mirrors. I reused the original bolts and weights. I really just took those pieces on the new bolt and put them on the old bolt along with the mirrors. If you check at the 2:40 mark you can kind of see what's in that plastic bag. At the 4:21 mark you can see the two little pieces that I used for the spacing so that the throttle turned independently. Those were on the new bolt in that plastic bag.

Did you manage (and how) to unscrew the right side mirror (stock) bolt that’s still in the handlebar?

Yes, it is threaded the opposite so you have to rotate it the other direction. Normally it is counter-clockwise to get bolts out. This one is clockwise.

Anyone out there have advice on this? Where I live we just have a plate in the back with a registration sticker and then a paper copy of registration and insurance (which I keep under the seat).

@@ridingwithgravity401 here in india we have to put plates both in the back n front, n in the 2024 version the front plate is mounted on the visor n it looks ugly af. But u guys are lucky u got a more sexy model. I realy hate the tail section of the newer version

Diameter is roughly same (I don’t have the originals anymore) but I like the stability and visibility from these bar end mirrors. For my riding position, particularly on highways, I can see better with the bar end mirrors.

@@ridingwithgravity401 Husky branded ones are expensive. I want to buy non Huksy branded ones but there is two size, 98mm and 80mm. Which size is closer to the original husky barend mirrors?

The Husky OEM bar ends are basically Highsider Montana Evo mirrors, so you could probably find those cheaper than the Husky bar ends I put on. 98mm is probably closer. Personal preference, I prefer a larger mirror for visibility. If you search for the Highsider Montana Evo mirrors you'll find some options out there if you're going for bar ends.

Yeah, mine was manufactured in India, and the specs in the manuals are all metric. If I am remembering correctly, the actual bar end is an M6 and the 7/32" SAE hex worked for that. The little screws on the mirror that I was swapping are smaller and the SAE 7/64" worked great for those. My allen key set is SAE so I just find the closest equivalent.

The Husqvarna bar end mirrors I found on eBay. The K&N air filter and DNA stage 2 air filter I found on Amazon. The FuelX Lite I got on Race Dynamics India. (I’m in the U.S and had it shipped here). The LeoVince Titanium I got on AF1 Racing (af1racing.com).
