"As society moves away from starting wars with natives who resort to cannibalism because they're sick of colonialism, we demand more from the knives we use less." - AKB 2018 The first part of this quote could be straight from a Rage against the Machine or SoaD song.

It took me 6 hours to write this script... just reading, looking at photos, and trying to figure out an angle. The man may have been an adventurer, or whatever- but it seemed like he died a pretty foolhardy way. I figured the context adds an additional backdrop to the dumb beating on the wood.

One thing I noticed about L6/Sawmill steel is that it leaves a strong metalic taste on fruits & veggies you cut with it. I haven't noticed that on any other carbon steel. It's weird, I don't mind though.

I like it. The shape is reminiscent of the original Bowie. Good handle length, good blade length, nice and thick. Good for combat fighting, or hunting/camping. Oil is oil, but if your really worried, use a food grade mineral oil if your processing wild game. Protects the blade from rust, and does not hurt the leather sheath. I'd probably have my local leather goods guy make me a sheath, rather than pay for their sheath.

I’ve always thought this looked like a cool blade. I never wanted to shell out the cash for it though. That wood handle took a hell of a beating! You know, if 3 in 1 oil isn’t pretentious enough, you could turn that blade into a spear, skewer baby seals on your next wilderness outing and squeeze the oil out of them. I did that last Thursday and the oil Is much less smelly than 3 in 1

I see your point about how centering and other fit and finishing issues aren't really a functional issue, but given that most people who collect knives are interested in knives being more than simple utilitarian tools, it makes sense that we'd want things to be aesthetically pleasing. I mean if we didn't care, we'd all buy one $50 knife and be done with it, never watching reviews or getting into designs, etc.
@Drownedinblood

You know they would take a look at it, then toss it into a case and move onto the next one, only to pull it out once in a blue moon to make some comparison.
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 6 жыл бұрын
You forget that I have spent thousands of dollars on knives. I own and buy the same shit as everyone else. My perspective is different. You see my focus is on general hand feel, durability, lockup, and looks. I have 20 dollar beautifully machined knives and 200-300 with imperfections and vice versa. If I ever get to the point where an off centered blade makes me mad or I flame a company via social media because the top swedge isn't perfect- then I'm done. I don't get how a off centered blade causes someone to be "done" with a company. That is just not what I'm about. The good thing is there are hundreds of other KZfaq channels, forums, and reviews that focus on those things. Now sure... if I spent $500 on a Production knife and what I was looking for was an occasional pocket carry to resell in 5 months... then yeah, maybe. But I'm not that dude. All of my knives from the $12 Sanrenmu to the $500 are functional tools, that I can appreciate for various reasons.
@HikikomoriZone
@HikikomoriZone 6 жыл бұрын
Advanced Knife Bro I gotcha. I didn't mean to come off as antagonizing, if that's what you got from my first comment. I'm just voicing my thoughts on why most folks do seem to care about things like centering. But I completely understand where you're coming from now.
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 6 жыл бұрын
Nope... Just clarifying my comments. I stopped buying knives more than $200. I just don't find anything in them that justifies that price... so maybe that's my version of off centered blades. I mean I do see some knives I want over that price point, but I just can't appreciate the tolerances that other people can. I guess all I'm trying to say if that we all get different things out of the hobby... I buy cheap and expensive blades, and I'm willing to let smaller imperfections slide if I really like the knife. I like the discussion- thanks!

Now you have me googling combat beads for my tactical flip flops. Oh sweet, I found flip flops with a bottle opener, you need some. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_18?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=bottle+opener+flip+flops+for+men&sprefix=bottle+opener+flip%2Caps%2C186&crid=9RHXRE2WOAE0

What was that knife? The Van Dougal Rover? Can't find anything online, perhaps it is spelled differently. What is the steel and where can I purchase one? Love the vids man, keep it up.

If you're not using the oil glands of a grizzly bear in mid-rut to oil your blades, then you just need to turn in your ManCard and go baton your balls with a limp hummingbird feather. I expected more from you, Bro. Anyway, another entertaining video, you keep hope alive; if I didn't spend 90% of my income tracking horny bears, I'd donate more than I do.

So I’m drinking a kiwi beer in kiwiland as I watch and type this. The knife you have is the small one, it’s not historically accurate, the bigger one is. Yes they are different. Vons men used them for everything, mainly because they did not have anything else. The tip often broke off, then reground by hand to a spear point,they were made by a blacksmith with poo steel, not a blade Smith with good steel. Svord is the company, B Baker is the maker, and he’s a nice guy but does not do good bevels, but he does do very good tempering. Keep doing what you do, I like it, I’m a Knife maker, might send you one of mine one day.

Yeah the bevels kind of suck- but overall it's a solid piece

I think we might have inadvertently stumbled on a new blood sport. Maybe Olympic sport some day. Knife Recovery With Implausibly Small Knives.... can we go for Esse Junglas recovered from a hickory log by a Spyderco Rodie.

I had fun with it last time, so I thought I'd give a go at another larger than necessary log. Groups of videos explore new ideas... beatup on new sorts of wood.. you know it's a journey.

Christ on a crutch! You beat the ever lovin hell out of that bastard. Bravo! Now how does that knife cut tomatoes? I am more of a tomato slicer myself and feel that was inadvertently left out of the video.

Let's call it a working edge. Those beefy convex edges hold up well to this bullshit, but aren't tomato friendly.
