Cool vid, thanks. I think sealed helps with kick drum and bass accuracy.. my fave sub setup in early 2000s was my friend's cheap kicker (2)10s sealed, in stereo 50w ea from an alpine 4ch amp. My friend had no clue what he was doing and obviously used whatever equipment was laying around, but honestly Metallica never sounded better on anything else since. And Polk 4x6s. Go figure I still run Polk/kicker home or car. I wanna try svs at home.

Great review! I'm stuck on the SB for its smaller size but like the PB. The PB would be more work to find a spot because of the size. Would there be a big difference going with the SB instead of the PB? Is one more better than the other that you would actually notice it?
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! With the SB you're going to get a tighter sound, with the PB you're going to get more output. We've always preferred the sound of a sealed subwoofer and we like the more compact profile, so we can recommend that! We haven't had a chance to hear any of SVS' ported (PB) line but they're also supposed to be pretty solid. Whichever fits better into your space is probably a better option.

I bought two of these subs because of the many good reviews, these were my first sealed ones and I was super exited about them.. These sound and look great and the app is nice. Just one huge minus, once power is connected the subs start to make a pretty loud 'hissing' sound, loud enough to disturb during silent scenes in a movie and impossible to keep the power on these as always on unless you want to hear that hissing all day. Even contacted SVS about it and they said that it's completely normal, a feature. Wouldn't expect these kind of features in this price range. So keep this in mind if choosing this sub
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! We didn't notice this on either of the units that we received, that is definitely not normal. Is the hissing a higher pitched frequency or lower frequency like 60Hz? The subwoofers should be completely silent in silent scenes. Sorry to hear about these issues.

One of the reasons I went to passive subs was all the stories of failing sub amps. I'd assume that the amps are made as cheaply as the manufacturer feels that they can get away with. All that vibrating can't help but destroy electronics as well.

Thankyou for the review! I'm disappointed that you felt the SVS SB3000 was more geared for the video/home theater sources. I'm not at all into home theater or really any kind of video related genres. However, as a very long-time audiophile, I tend to place my financial resources toward analog music reproductions. I'm a dedicated and firm believer in the McIntosh power amps, integrated amps and preamps, (not so much into receivers), and also a Mac power amp owner. I'm not afraid of the high-dollar systems out there but to quote Thomas Reid; "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link". There's no point in spending $2K or $3K on a subwoofer if you don't have a comparable category and level of quality in the remaining speakers and main components. The home I own is a townhouse, and about 14 years old. It's not configured to handle the correct speaker placement best applied for more advanced and expensive stereo systems. I hope to buy another home that offers a greater degree of sound isolation and larger rooms, which would then make it a more practical place for higher-grade stereo systems. My present system is far above average compared to most people in the middle, to middle-high, income bracket. It's certainly above average to those who are casual, non-discriminate listeners of music, (and those who feel nothing can beat their $200 to $800 earbuds, lol). Yet, even though I can't justify the purchase of an SVS SB4000 or even an SB3000 right now, I found that I could improve my speaker system with a second subwoofer. When you brought up adding a second SB3000 to the system I think that was a great bit of advice! The capability for setting the EQ on the SVS Subs is a great feature. My present speaker system is comprised of 6 Klipsch speakers and a single Klipsch 12", sealed, powered subwoofer. At a cost of only about $400, the Klipsch sub wouldn't even come remotely close to most any subwoofers in the SVS line let alone the SVS SB3000 you've just reviewed. Of the people I personally know who are audiophiles, several own a single subwoofer in their system and feel that a single sub is all they need. I was never really convinced of that but I learned to accept it. But among my system's components is an ADC Sound Shaper Three Graphic & Parametric EQ, (dubbed "ParaGraphic"). The EQ allowed for a more even dispersion on the way the single sub behaved but only to a degree. That EQ was the reason that I said "I learned to accept it". A friend of mine brought his subwoofer to my home not long ago, which happened to be the same exact Klipsch subwoofer model I have in my system. We were curious to see if the second sub would improve the unevenness of the sound from a single subwoofer. Well, of course it did. I wasn't really surprised by the results but then I reconfigured my EQ, which controls 12 octaves per channel (and 3 center-points per octave/ per channel, in the parametric scale). When I reconfigured my EQ to handle the second sub it really surprised me! I wasn't expecting the near seamless consistency of the sound from the subwoofers regardless of wherever the listener went in the room. OK, so my point here is that if you can afford a second subwoofer at the quality level of the SB3000, you should definitely make it happen! Perhaps more importantly, is that you should do everything you can to match the second one with the same make & model you already own. In other words, the second sub need to be the same exact make & model and not just one with the same output specs. If the second sub is different, (even if it's a high-quality), the sound will not even out and after all, that's the point of having the second sub, right? Oh sure, you may get lucky and dial in the second sub just right for a particular kind of music but chances are you'll have to fool with the dials again for a different music category or even worse, change the settings on a per-song bases! Anyway, that's a "FWIW" contribution and thanks again for the review! Rich

@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately it doesn't look like the Yamahas have any kind of subwoofer output, so you would have to get the signal from your DAC. We would probably suggest splitting the left channel into two XLRs and converting one into an RCA connector for the line input on the sub. Hope this helps!

Thanks for watching! We liked both the SB-3000(s) and the Bravus 12D so much that we ended up buying them both for our own personal use. We think they're both great options, but there are some differences. The SVS digs a little deeper with slightly tighter and faster response, while the Bravus has more output at higher frequencies. The SVS took us a little more time to configure for our room, as opposed to the Bravus which was pretty much to our liking right out of the box. We think the SVS is a better dual purpose (both movies and music) subwoofer than the Bravus, but you can't go wrong with either one in our opinion. Hope this helps!

@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Every room's different, and because of that, there's no 'one-size fits-all' sort of approach to it - your best bet is going to be just trying different locations to see what gets you the best sound and output at your listening position. You could also try putting the subwoofer in your listening position (just rest it on your seat), and move around the room trying to find the best sounding spot. Then, just move your sub to that location. Hope this helps :)

Great review! But it brings up an interesting question... would you recommend spending $1,000 on a subwoofer like this SVS, and getting a less-expensive receiver like the Yamaha TSR-700? OR would you suggest getting two less expensive subwoofers like the klipsch R-12SW and upgrading your receiver into the thousand-dollar range? Thoughts???
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! On the receiver front, this is all going to depend on your speakers, their efficiency, how much power you need, etc. but it's also worth remembering that receivers can get outdated much quicker than subwoofers can (new audio formats and HDMI versions making old ones obsolete, etc). So if you spend more on your subwoofer(s) now, chances are you won't have to upgrade it/them nearly as quickly. For the subwoofer(s) themselves, while we do usually recommend going with dual subs, we feel that even a single SB-3000 will give you a better experience than dual R-12SWs for instance. Depending on your room, the dual subs might have a more even sound, but in terms of bass quality/articulation and output, the SB-3000 is hard to beat compared to many entry level options. Of course, it is a lot more expensive as well! Hope this helps! :)

@@TwoGuyzTech Thank you! In-car audio I've been a JL Audio proponent for the better part of two decades. But when it came to home audio, I never put much thought into subwoofer selection until now. SVS does seem to be putting a lot of customer oriented attention-to-detail into their offerings. Having an app for controlling a subwoofer is innovative, but now that it exist, I honestly question the logic of any company putting out a subwoofer without smart device control. Now I'm wondering if blending an sb-3000 with a pb-3000 would give you the best of both worlds???

Placing the subs symmetrically either side of the screen and symmetrically with relation to the main speakers is not a good way to evaluate the benefits of two subwoofers. It is quite easy to fool around with the simulation in REW with your own room and relevant spec'ed speakers, crossovers etc and get a precise idea how the acoustics work.

@TwoGuyzTech Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, that sounds like some pretty bad coil whine. We can hear a little bit of a hum coming just a couple inches from the back of the sub but definitely not high pitched squealing 7-8 feet away, that might be a problematic unit. We did have an old Blu-ray player from some years ago that had really bad coil whine like you mentioned and we just got rid of it. Might need to reach out to SVS about it because that is odd. I hope this helps though!

Unless you want to optimise for a single and very narrow position in your room, you should absolutely go for dual subs and a careful placement of them (or front and rear corners and a Anti-Mode driving them)!

Thanks for watching! We really appreciate the kind words :) Unfortunately we don't have a lot of time in our upload schedule to make room for a video like that anytime soon. Thankfully REW is a pretty simple application once you have the correct hardware though. Basically it's just a matter of getting your microphone in the right place, calibrating the microphone level with a level meter, and taking either a subwoofer or speaker measurement. There are lots of great videos on REW already floating around to help out :) Hope this helps!

Been using duals in my 7.2.4 setup for well over a year now. I'm still on my honeymoon phase. These subs rock just as hard now as they did the day I purchased them. The only possible regret that I might have, is that I wished I could've saved more money and purchased the 4000 or SB16 models......even though the dual 3000's are more than enough to handle my room.

The 3000 will have better transients, hit with more authority and articulation. The only thing that the PB2000 has over the 3000 is greater output at lower frequencies. Currently running dual 3000's in a 7.2.4 setup for over a year now and I couldn't be happier with the performance. They totally rock for movies and music. It's a hassle but Svs does have a trial period for all of their products. If you can afford it, purchase the 3000. Try out both subs and keep the one you like.

@@troystevens9506 same here, I want a 3rd and forth but other priorities keep slowing down the process. I wasn't happy at first with the proformance of the subs but I did not properly set them up. Dual subs are better than one and one of their thoughts for subs are better than two.. you should learn to surround yourself with concrete cracking and move your property a few inches in any One direction everywhere all the time.. you don't want your property to be lopsided when the base construction stops do you??? All the walls are literally shaking and considering that I've got 3 set of neighbours to deal with (flat underneath my wooden floor, also two homes to either side of my walls).
