I swear I wish there was someone locally who did this type of installation. I recently moved into a brand new townhome and due to the layout I can finally turn my movies, music and games up. I can’t spend a ton of money because I don’t have the big time budget like the customers in this video do but I can still spend around $6K for everything. I know people loathe Bose but for what I want esthetics wise, they fit the decor of my home perfectly. The only thing is the subwoofer (probably isn’t a subwoofer at all) just doesn’t have the range so I bought a Klipsch sub. Nice build quality but that did help the sound. Actually the Bose bass module sounds better. So if anyone is reading this thread my question is which SVS would more than do the job for me? I can’t spend $1,500 on a subwoofer but I can spend at least $1,000-$1,200 on one. Which is better ported or not ported? What receiver should I get (to replace my Onkyo 7.2)? I would love to get a 9.2 receiver so which ones should I look at? All said, how in the would I install ceiling speakers? I definitely don’t want wires going everywhere so any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Hey guys, what are your thoughts on sealed vs ported subs for someone with sensitivity to high levels of LFE? When I’m at concerts, I notice some minor sensitivity, even when wearing ear plugs. There is a gentleman on KZfaq who reviews subs, who says his ears handle ported subs better. Have you heard the same?

WOW! I can’t believe they didn’t respond. It’s almost like what’s the point of making these videos. Especially when they say “leave a comment”. Here’s my opinion because I’ve had both. A ported subwoofer imo has a much better sound quality than a sealed box. A ported sub has 2 ways of moving air; the port(s) and the woofer. The ports also help with bass roll off. Without getting technical if you have a smaller sized room then I would go with a sealed subwoofer. If your room is bigger and more sound is needed to fill the room I would definitely go with a ported subwoofer. My room is a medium sized room with wood flooring so I needed something big enough to fill the entire area so I purchased a SVS-PB-2000 Pro. I was going to get 2 of them but my wife put an end to that idea lol! I couldn’t spend several thousand dollars on a damn subwoofer but I really wanted a good one so the PB-2000 Pro is perfect. I did have to rearrange our china and crystal because that sub was making the walls and the dishes in our china cabinet rattle. I also had to put up some panels to help absorb some of the sound because the sound was bouncing off the wood floors. If you’re sensitive to certain frequencies you may want to look at the entire SVS line of subs. They’ve got something for every listening environment.
