A swag camping setup has been used for many years by drovers through out the Australian.
Drovers would be swag camping while travelling through out rural outback Australia and other industries.
Swag camping is simple easy and a traditional form of camping in the Australian bush.
Swag camping is still widely used, and so many swag designs are now available.
My swag setup in the Aussie bush is my home away from home, and i still rather set my swag up on the ground, like they have done for many years by drovers.
Make sure you season the canvas when you buy a new swag.
I soaked my in the bath over night, and set it up outside the next day to dry. Thats how i seasoned my new swag.

Great video Tim. Nothing better than crawling into a comfy swag after a few coldies at night. I love my swag. It had plenty of use on Fraser Island last week. I left the front flat open and listened to the waves while drifting off to sleep. Ahhh heaven.

Great video mate. Have always used swags myself as I love the ease and quickness of set up with them, although have recently acquired a roof top tent and even though it’s more fiddly then a swag and takes longer to set up, it is nice been up high and off the ground. Good to get back from the bush and see another video from ya mate. Unfortunately for me I get too claustrophobic stuck inside a swag as well as a few others seem to. I'm just a smaller medium sized guy, but I like to be able to sit up and move freely around to get changed and have a stretch and whatnot. I also like to set up a space for my dog in there, as well a spot to sit my guitar! It's a bit of a bastard to pack up and down though.

Love a swag for a quick solo trip but can’t beat a camper trailer for longer trips and touring. Also have a wife who won’t sleep on the ground 😉 I don’t mind base camping because it means I can sit down by the fire and have a coldy after a long day exploring without having to setup all over again.

I picked up a new one about a month ago, it’s junk. Used once and had to be repaired under warranty because they use cheap thread to stitch. Pole broke while I was setting it up even though it’s pre bent and I was extract careful. Wouldn’t give me my money back but at least they replaced the pole for free and let me choose my own repairer.

Thanks for sharing. Im still in the habit of rolling my swag out in the back of the ute, crocs wont get me. Then down in vic it was to stay out of the snow. Gday Chip, Rolling that swag out up off the ground when camping in the top end around croc country, isn't such a bad idea. Tents sure are handy for that extra room, but as you say, they are big and heavy. It's finding that balance and what works for the style of camping that you both enjoy doing.
