Swallow the Sun have got to my favourite doom metal band along with Draconian. RIP Aleah Starbridge who you saw in this video - the vocals actually belong to Anette Olzon (ex Nightwish). Aleah, however, does beautiful vocals on Heartstrings Shattering, and on all of the Trees of Eternity songs, my absolute favourite: The Passage. But yes, you need DRACONIAN! Stellar Tombs is a good start.

Did you ever hear Songs From The North the triple album? Listening to all in one sitting is a challenge. Plague of Butterflies is my favorite EP.

The dark-haired gal seen in the video is Aleah Stanbridge, who passed away from cancer before her Trees Of Eternity album was released back in 2016. She is also the gal on the cover of the Swallow The Sun - Songs From The North album.

@sopwithsnoopy Well, who is on the cover is the model Valentine Reltien, but it was Aleah who took the picture. She was a photographer too ;)

One of my favorite bands. Swallow the Sun have incredible range, everything from beautiful, folk-infused melancholia (disk two of Songs from the North), to the most crushingly heavy doom/death. And, for a while, Kai was their drummer. In a strange twist of bad luck, I managed to see both Wintersun and StS when Kai wasn't touring with them.

I still have my unbeatable doom trio in Draconian, Swallow The Sun and Hanging Garden. Those really are my winter bands. A close fourth would be Novembers Doom. All amazing bands with the most beautiful but melancholic music.

I think it is Annette on vocals but yeah it is aleah in the video and aleah was and is amazing defintly need to more of her stuff on this channel but it does defintly sound very close to aleah it had me thinking the same thing

I saw them performing for the first time this song since Aleah's death and it was heartbreaking (Aleah is in the video and sings most of the female vocalists in Swallow the sun.She was also this band's guitarist's wife) ❤

Anette is on vocals on this one because the original singer died before the making of this song.

@Jimmy Forsell It's not correct. This song was released in 2012, and Aleah died in 2016. By the way, it's Aleah herself who is acting in this video - with Anette's vocals ;)

The woman who actually sings here is the wonderful Anette Olzen (ex Nightwish) and is still very much alive. The beautiful lady who appears in the video holding the ashes urn and lip-synching the final verse is Aleah Stanbridge, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2016. Check out her posthumous albums with Trees Of Eternity and solo, Aleah (both available in full here on YT). The voice of an angel. R.I.P.
