I was so disappointed when I heard Trill Sammy and Travis Scott came from Texas... No Texas identity in those guys at all. Sound like ATL and Chicago, nothing Texas about them... DJ Screw, Fat Pat, Hawk, Big Moe and Pimp C are all doing cartwheels backflips and frontflips in their graves right now... When I think of Texas, I think of this. This is true Texas identity I came to love.

not sure who Trill Sammy is but Travis Scott literally dropped an album named “Astroworld” and had houston samples on it. he also has an annual festival to commemorate its release. His style might not sound like what SUC and Swishahouse dropped in the 90s- early 2000s but he pays homage.

The version I grew up listening to with some local C&S treatment had Hawk’s verse so chopped up you could only hear every third word. I just now realized how sentimental and heartfelt it is compared to Trae’s 😂 dude was a softie but balled so hard. RIP to all the old guard!
