I know a guy who slept rough for three years when he was in his early twenties, ten years on he's doing great. Steady job, nice flat which he lives in with his GF. Once when our friend group had had a few beers he opened up a bit about it. Rough sleeping/begging feels, in his words, like "everyone else in the world is a multi-millionaire, they walk past you as if you don't exist and wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire." Grim.

I can't begin to imagine how these poor people survive, especially in the winter. When I'm in bed on a terrible night, i always think of them, and the poor animals too. I wish i could help them all. Bless them xx

I grew up living on the streets in America and didn't have to be in an abusive home. It's not a glamorous lifestyle. But I learned about how little you need to survive. I hope that these people can find a way to be in a home. I never considered my self homeless I in fact was home way more than normal people. I liked living like a animal. No past no present just living for today.

I've lived on the streets in my home town [YORK] for a couple of months in winter and over the Christmas period, I can honestly say I've got a massive family in my town, I never knew who my dad was, I knew his name but didn't know him or were he was in my home town, I knew he was a drinker and he probably drank with the drinkers in the city centre somewhere, anyway i went to the city centre and asked if any of them knew my old man and just about all of them knew him and they all had nothing but love,respect,loyalty, and story's of my old man, so I won't bore you anymore but i met up with the one person i thought I'd never ever seen or meet,and you know what? I'm exactly the same as him in every way and he took me straight into his flat,he got me sorted and helped me get on benefits and I'm now in my own place and most of all, I've got a dad witch I love and spend a hell of a lot of time with. Dad it took me a lifetime to find you and I love you loads pal and thank you for being you. All because i was homeless!! All you guys out there that are homeless please keep fighting and trying to find help because it's out there i promise you guys, big respect and love from someone who knows how it feels 🇬🇧 ✊🏼

I was homeless from 15 to 17, back in the 90's. I slept outside train stations, hidden in bushes, disabled public toilet floors, I slept in abandoned and run down office buildings, houses and the most disgusting run down static caravan riddled with holes, spiders and mice. I slept in cars, homeless shelters on the odd night, once I turned 16, in the 16-25 year old hostel. I relied heavily on begging for food, my friends stole me clothes, it was a horrible time in my life, as I was pregnant and my stepmother told me I couldn't go home unless I had a termination. I had my termination and 3 days later, whilst dad was at work, my stepmother still kicked me out. I had very close friends who were my age and younger, who were groomed by a peadophile ring, who got the majority of them pregnant, hooked on heroin and became drug smugglers. I kid you not. I knew I had to leave the town. Until my dad died, last year, my mum had no idea I had ever lived on the streets, for 3 years. Just after I turned 17 I couldn't cope with my life where I was, and decided to take myself 250 miles away, to the north west, to try and start a new life. And what a life I made. I'm now 40 and the past 23 years, have been the most settled I have ever been. I am a Bouncer in my hometown, and I see the homeless struggle against the drunks I deal with on a Friday and Saturday night. Luckily we have an amazing organisation of volunteers who go out on those nights, taking care of and protecting homeless and vulnerable individuals (including heavily intoxicated individuals). They also have vans set up to feed the homeless and items such as bottles of water, silver blankets ect for the intoxicated individuals. They go above and beyond, because they will sit next to a lone individual, who is vomiting and won't leave there side. In my line of work, Vomiting individuals is a very common occurrence. Yes I stay with people but that is as far as it goes. These people are Angels and I think every major Town/City needs organisations like this

Seeing anybody homeless just really breaks my heart .I've been there years ago & will never forget that awful feeling .

I was homeless on and off for over 20 years. And usually slept in a tent hidden in dense woodland to stay safe. As sleeping on the streets is dangerous. Like the guy in this video I also used to use a bike to travel to a safer sleeping spot in woodland.

wait hold up, they make 3 homeless people come to them every day and plead a case and the strongest case gets the bed for the night while the other 2 get humiliated day after day until they finally get the bed for a night? i get its a nice gesture but could they not be a little better with dealing with the process of it lol

I've lived in Penplas in 2001 to 2004. Swansea was nothing like this when I was there. Or, at least , the homeless were just better at hiding. Sad to see this Swansea.

Charity based help centre designed for the homeless only has one room for one bed but has a huge room that could easily be cut in half

I slept rough on of 20 yrs I can not believe there's only one bed as women she should get it vulnerable I know men can be vulnerable to but the churches need open more beds through council churches etc the churches never confess but they get paid for night shelter I'm now settled in studio flat 7 yrs clean 10 dry 20 got my family 3 beautiful cats it would petrify me if lost my home probably commit suicide all though I'm bipolar split personality attachment disorder ptsd and adha I'm on medication I suffer Terrible depression and episode but I'm so thankful to all kindness I've been showed

I can’t understand the Government allowing endless numbers of migrants, both legal and illegal, into this country while there are homeless Brits.

It always upsets me when i see homeless people.

if I could I would take in some of these people they may have addictions and alot of problems legal social etc but at the end of the day they as all people are struggling as long as a person is no harm to others or bad intent then I think to be honest they should make some sort of derelict or empty building simply so people can at least be safer and warmer at night or even like a tent city as people are pretty much happy to have just enough to survive. I hope these people find themselves happiness wherever they want or need it and wish them luck and hope they stay safe and find somewhere where they can be themselves .

What is always ignored is that although not all, most homeless people have an exclusive relationship with drugs and/or alcohol, which leads to aggressive begging and members of the public having enough and attacking homeless folks.

i guess the moral is to try your best to take care of yourself, but to also extend a hand in situations where you can and should. maybe we’re all on our own on life, but that’s never going to stop me from attempting to raise up another soul that is never lesser than myself at a time when they are vulnerable and i am able to help them. i think the suffering of the one is the suffering of all. the reason we all live collectively is because we learned long ago that it is nearly impossible to survive for long on this planet as a human, alone. and so we came together eventually leading to this flawed and corrupt governing system. where a small percentage thrives and the majority loses. whether you hold a job or not. as a nation it should provide stability and opportunity for all which directly benefits the state. when all are able to contribute the state and the citizens benefit. when we/the state allow/tolerate our brothers and sisters to suffer, it is all who suffer. which is why i say again, the suffering of the one is the suffering of the all. who we are as a nation is shown through our HDI but also in the ability to provide for those citizens. in return reaping the benefit of the contributions of healthy, happier, trained individuals, who actually want to work because their basic needs have been met, the have the faith of their brethren and establishment to be able to excel and advance said nation to further progress. that is the difference between a conscious advancing modern society and an ignorant survivalist dystopia

Mental health issues is a real issue..i suffer with it and if it wasnt for my family helping at the times i zone out due to my brain not functioning the way it should ..i would have been on the streets..im forever grateful to my family and to all that have helped..never judge please..its very hard for some people to survive by themselves..unless of course those in the situation due to addiction and making their next fix a priority over paying bills ..unfortunately

The homeless man aged about 26 who was murdered, was killed by two other homeless men, as it happens. Things are often not as simple as they seem. That said, this is not surprising as hate crimes are rare and violence against certain groups is often by people within the same group.
