LOVE this video! Can’t believe you got so much footage of the different life stages of cicadas all at once. And that time lapse was amazing! Have only really seen empty shells or dead cicadas, or heard them, of course. Have never seen one emerge from the ground or freshly molted on a tree.

Trying swinging while having Cicadas hit you is not only funny, but it hurts! We had so many emerge last year and they were ALL OVER the place. Those the fish at the pond I have they were enjoying jumping out the water to catch these big bugs for their meals. So we constantly heard fish splashing in the pond as they were going nuts for these bugs. Ever since I was little I ALWAYS played with Cicadas. I was a weird child. I would play with spiders, butterflies, moths, caterpillars, walking sticks, grasshoppers..etc. I was a bug girl and I still am. I LOVE learning so much about them and I hope when I'm stable enough financially I can start keeping a butt load of them!

Kat!!!! I’m crazy fascinated about these cicadas! I’m 60 years old and have welcomed them all through out my life. When I was little, I collected them. I would hang them on my nose!!! That was back in the 70’s. I’m in a south suburban neighborhood from Chicago. I’m getting some footage. 0:13

Oh instead of moth balls you can use listerine. I usually just do a little splash of it to keep mold out. I also don’t stick pins in the thorax of butterflies since it can be harder to get the pin out once they are dried

I didn't know it depends on where you live. I live in Baltimore, and our 17-year cicadas happened when I had my baby in 2004, then again in 2021. See! Always learning from you. Also, the pinning tutorial was also. Thanks for being you!🕸🕷🦗🪲🐸🐊🐍🕸🪳🦂🐞🪰🦎

Not sure why cicadas made me look, but Makeship rats you out again! I'm super happy how many of your creations are true spiders, and I thought the next one might be a tarantula again; I was thinking maybe Bon Bon...but I'm super pleased with what's coming. A great choice :)

This, this takes me back to the days before the 2020 lock-downs, I would be volunteering at the Royal BC Museums entomology collection pining for hours, there's another level to this as well called pointing, the pin go's through a paper point glue is added to the point and I'd have to stick the right half of a bug to the glue and stick it to the board, thing is the bugs were all dried out husks so the static from my hands would make both the container into a wild bug-nado or the legs on the pointed insect would pop off and go flying and I'd have to start all over again, fun times.

I found interesting the pinning informations, but as far as it goes for me, I'll keep myself far away as possible from every type of bugs as much as I can. 😅 I enjoy watching some in my garden, but as long as we each have our own space, I'm good like that. 😂

I'm from Colorado but go to STL all the time was just there from the 10th to 20th and was in Afton walked into a place not a Cicada in sight walked out after a few hours and they were EVERYWHERE crazy. I lived in Ohio for 10 years and seen them come out there, but they were green with yellow eyes the ones I had seen in STL was black with red eyes was cool to see the different species. I'm not sure if people in STL eat them but in Ohio people would trap them and grill and eat them it was like a delicacy there, I guess.

I hate cicadas…my dogs don’t though. You’re more than welcome to come to my house and get rid of them for me lol! Man, it’s been years since I’ve been to the City Museum! When people ask me some fun things to do when they vacation here, obviously the Zoo and Grants Farm (if in season) are a must, a Cardinals game, and the City Museum…although it is kind of expensive. I still haven’t made it to the aquarium yet, but hopefully will this summer.

I wonder if Nova Scotia is getting a crazy amount of cicadas, as far as I know we don’t really get them in BC (I could be wrong but I’ve never seen them here). Maybe I could convince my grandparents to send over some specimens (they won’t but wishful thinking lol)
