Swarovski EL 8.5x42 vs SLC 8x56 binoculars

Even though these binocular’s cannot be compared had to head but I give out some points here to make it easier for people to choose one of these.

Jay, Excellent review. This man speaks the truth. I own both of the binoculars that you are reviewing, along with Zeiss 7 x 42 victory FL, Zeiss night owl 7 x 45 Swarovski EL 10 x 50. & 8.5x42. & have owned many other alpha glass. The binocular I grab for most of the time....the 8x56 slc hd. As you have stated, they are very comfortable to look through for long periods of time & just offer the best view of all the glass i currently own. I carry them in a chest harness when hunting & don’t find the weight to be an issue. I have hunted with several other hunters that all carry top end glass & they have all commented on how bright & clear they are & didn’t think that the slc’s could ever compete with the EL’s, though after looking through them especially in low light, i have convinced more than one to purchase a set. Sharp as EL’s to the edge, & much more comfortable due to the larger exit pupil. One other note, the 56mm slc seems to be much clearer than the 42mm slc that i have compared, not sure why, but there was a big difference, as there should be ...there is a $700 US dollar difference between the two. Keep up the great reviews!

As binos are very personal I'd stick with Zeiss Victory HT 8x54! 😍

thank you so much for this video. it was truly very very helpful in me deciding what to buy. I was thinking EL was the way to go. but I dont hike or walk alot. most viewing is by safari jeep and stationary. So I think SLC is the best for me.

If you don’t use your binoculars in the night then 8x42mm will be easier to hold but they have been discontinued. So you can buy Kahles Helia 8x42 which is the same binoculars and made in Austria. If weight is no convert then 8x56 is the absolute best binoculars. Thanks

@@jagmeetsmann oh nice. I think the 56 will be helpful as I.mainly use the bins to find leopards who are perfectly camoflauged. And usually at 5.30 pm.as the light goes down it would really help. Pricewise need to see if slc 8x56 and see how it compares to the el 8.5x42 as well. Though I'm primarily a photographer and carry a heavy 4kg lens with me. But as I'm pretty stronger than average I think.I shud be able to manage with the slc. Something about thr flattening view of swarovision put me off, what do u think? I like the 3d like effect which helps sometimes to highlight my subject. Does the swarrovision negate this effect frm ur expereince??

@@rajivwelikala5062 I am with you 100%. Flat field is good you are only looking in one direction and not panning. ELs have wider field of view. But if you want to enjoy the view in 3D then don’t go for ELs. Image through ELs is excellent but not a sparkly as SLC 56mm.

The image size (object viewed) does not change with objective lens size. It’s the the magnification that makes the image bigger. And if your your talking about the image being bigger because you she more to the left and right that’s the field of view. As far as how far you can put your eyes away for the ocular lenses (eye relief) is the same in both these binoculars at 20mm I believe. I have the 10x56 LSC and am looking to buy the EL’s.

I never said it is because of the objective size. It is because of the bigger exit pupil. Try 8x56 and 8x42 side by side you will under stand. If you are buying ELs because of smaller size then go for it, but if you think you will get better image then that's not happening. You will feel the image is same.

@@jagmeetsmann Hi Jay, I agree I don’t expect any difference during the day except for smaller foot print and hoping on a flatter field to edge. Don’t the EL’s have a flatter field all the way to the edge due to field flatter in the optical design? I had seen another reviewer complain about focuser rubbing barrels when bino is fully folded. I think is was optica exotica. Thank you

@@Paultricounty that guy is made fun of on birdforum , don’t listen to him. SLC 8x56 have clear image up to the edge. Flat image is nothing I value.

Does the focus knob rub on the inner barrels when the EL’s are close together?

Will the 8x56 be susceptible to image shake when handhold or is the shake increased by the bigger magnification ie 10x compared to 8x?

56mm will make you tired sooner. 10x will shake more than 8x.

Jay, possibly a similar result as with the meostar vs z6i? :)

@@andrewoutside2073 while the Meostar riflescopes are very close to Swarovski Z6i, the Meostar binoculars are not as close. Only the HD models come close to SLC. Only 15x56 models from both brands are comparable and come very close but Swarovski beats Meopta in all features but price.

zeiss victory ht 10x42 or swaro slc 10x50? zeiss has allegedly better light transmission and swaro has clearer edge to edge image.

Here is my question.. 8x56 is brighter than 8.5x42 at night but it is marginally brighter or worthy of gain in brightness. Another word, if you see a shadow that you can't make out from 8.5x42 but you can with 8x56?
