This is 2 years old but I have only just seen it and thought any new viewers might want an update on what has happened since. Officer Rodney Williams was shot twice. The first time in the chest but it was stopped by his bulletproof vest. It doesn't appear that it caused any injury. The second bullet went through his gas mask and hit his cheek. He needed medical treatment and after he recovered was able to return back to working for SWAT. I was surprised because it looked pretty bad on the video and I didn't think he would be able to go back to work. In 2022 he received a Purple Heart, and both him and Officer Andrew Rea (the other officer you see in the video who drags him to safety) received Medals of Valour. The whole incident was investigated as is usual for officer involved shootings, and everyone was found to have acted appropriately. A bit harshly I think, criticisms were made of SWAT and the investigators recommended changes to be made in the future. The issues were that Officer Williams should have had a shield while he was providing cover for the tear gas to be shot. It was pointed out that he wouldn't have been able to carry the weapon he was using and the shield at the same time, but hey I guess bureaucrats don't care about practicalities. They also changed SWAT training and policies as Officer Williams touch the trigger on his gun while watching for the shooter instead of waiting until he was actually firing the gun. All I can say is I'm glad all the officers came out of this ok.
