I watched the harrowing gut-wrenching videos of this tragedy and the videos from a month ago in the Sargodha tragedy where Nazir Masih - an elderly Christian man in his 70s was beaten to death by a fanatic extremist mob. My family moved to Canada when I was four. Incidents such as these make me think twice about going to Pakistan. It’s not that tragedies can’t happen in a country. It’s the fact that law enforcement, provincial governments, and the federal government have once again showed their apathy and ineptitude in stopping tragedies such as this from happening. We must change as Pakistani’s. Kudos to Mr. Rahman for speaking up. He challenges extremism with courage, levelheadedness, rationality, and practicality. We must all learn and follow his lead in this regard, regardless of which way we lean politically.

Being an Indian Muslim it makes me optimistic seeing that both the conservatives and secular people of Pakistan are condemning the horrific incident. By contrast, in the last two weeks alone in India there has been 3 lynchings of Muslim men and 11 houses demolished in beef related incidents with little condemnation from the seculars and more cheering from the conservatives which is available as proofs in open in the social media comments.
