Swatch Dolls - TUTORIAL

Today I've got a fun little tutorial for you on how to create my #swatchdolls ! I used these sweet little chicas to swatch out all of my Daniel Smith watercolors and samples, now I can't get enough of them! It's a fun way to swatch and get a feel for your product as you first use it, and also have a finished piece at the end of your swatch sesh. Alternatively, you could just take the techniques and create whimsical little drawings in your planners and journals because they're just too cute!!!

Thank you for this little technique. It was kind of a key/bridge for my brain and helped me so much, and eased some frustrations I was having w/ drawing figures.

These little swatch dolls are so cute...they might be primitive but I absolutely adore them. I will finish watching the tutorial tomorrow. It is kind of stirring some ideas in my head for some other things. Thanks for that!

Awesome tutorial James. You were so focused yet your free flowing self. I think a stamp would be awesome. Of course people might stop creating their own swatch dolls. I have three questions: 1) Would you ever consider branding your art into gift wrap or fabric? I love the sketch you did of all the dolls on one sheet of paper. 2) You're referring to pens and pencils as you draw. You've gotten happy mail and picked up supplies in Japan. Can you please do a slower paced review/revisit of your pens and pencils and what you're currently using? 3) What NEW Jane Davenport product are you most excited about?

OMG!!! These are darling!! I am totally making a bunch of Halloween Swatch Dolls! And then elves and fairies and rag dolls, and, and, and!!! You are my hero!! (I'm a bit behind I know but, well, apparently my newest hobby involves Drs and PT and propping up my foot-all much more time consuming than I like. Never had that hobby before and hope it ends soon!!)

Genius idea James! I created an inventory book and I have all my swatches in there but I love this so much better. I'm definitely doing this asap. Thanks for sharing this tutorial! I need to figure out how to make it big enough for 12 colors....lol

When you first advertised this on IG, I didn't realize you could use it for legitimate swatch samples. (Thought you were just sampling paints w/o knowing which was which color.) I love your doodles and hope you do many more. For whatever reason, it's far easier for me to "put marks on paper" when I tell myself "I'm just doodling". Plus your swatchgirls are adorable! Could you make a cat in the same style please?
