I love my luminance. Their color range for skin tone is unbelievable. The best. However I must say Derwent Lightfast is also up there. When Derwent came out with that line…they really hit the ground running. I find myself reaching for the Lightfast even more than my Luminance. Unless of course I’m doing portrait work. Loved the swatching session. ❤

@@stephanie.kilgast Stephanie, I just watched again and took copious notes. I also researched the color names in Italian as that is where I live. Now I'd like to learn more about the pigments. Can you suggest any sites as reference? For example I'd like to know what specific color the color code refers to such ad PR101 is red oxide, I believe. I have searched a bit on Internet but have not found a site with much info. Do you know if any? Thank you once again. I really want to learn about colors. It is a lack that I have and it would be very useful!

I already own all of these, but this was so lovely to watch. I think I'm actually going to use your colour order for my new colour chart because the way Caran d'Ache organised theirs make no sense to me and I end up just using the same colours every time. I agree about the greens, I always hope for more Luminance colours, especially now that Derwent Lightfast exists as competition. (I prefer Luminance to Lightfast because I'm not a big fan of oil pencils)
@stephanie.kilgast

The lack of greens is a real shame! I've never tried the Derwent Lightfast and considering the amount of pencils I have, I don't think I'll try them anytime soon 😊

Lightfast are nice pencils, but don't work for me because of how I work. The opacity of Luminance allows me to burnish and blend them similar to Neocolors @@stephanie.kilgast

I think the "don't use black" mantra is more about using pure black in a painting rather than changing the value of a hue. Personally I like darkening my hues by adding in the complementary colors because it feels more cohesive as a whole and doesn't stand out like a sore thumb when someone just adds black to a hue to paint the shadow color. Nice video though :)

Green being my favourite colour, I am shocked they did NOT include hunter or forest. They carried a 🌈 of other colours. 🤷‍♀️ I will stick to blending pigments on my own. Great video, nonetheless, Stephanie! ~Mikio 😊✌️💚

yeah, the green department is weirdly lacking. But on the other hand, I prefer blending my own colors, so I can't say I mind too much. Maybe they'll grow their green range in the future.

are these the Caran D'Ache colored pencils the equivalent to Faber-Castell polychromos line? not sure which one to get
@stephanie.kilgast
@stephanie.kilgast 5 ай бұрын
if you have the choice, go with the luminance from caran d'ache as they're actually lightfast, which the polychromos for the most part are sadly not.

I am curious to know if you had any problems with the spring green? Mine just arrived (I bought it individually) and it's going down slick instead of creamy like their other pencils do. Slick and kind of scratchy. I am wondering if that is normal for that colour or if I got a lemon and should return it.

I never thought about the pigment info of these pencils. I wonder what surprises your lightfast test will bring because in some other mediums (like gouache) a pigment that is lightfast by itself or in mass tone turns out to be more fugitive when mixed with white pigments (PW4 or PW6). My guess is that many of the colors in this range don't disclose their use of a white pigment. I don't know how you would otherwise be able to get that variety of muted tints and tones.

The light blue 161’s pigment info said that it contains a blue and a BLACK? I think their label is incorrect.

yes I'm sure they had some white to it, but white is mostly fine if you've got very good pigments.

the blue 161 does contain blue and black, but I'm pretty sure white as well. It's a light blue that is ever so slightly muted.
