I wonder if you were shocked that some of the shades that no longer matched because maybe at the time when you got the foundation it was the deepest for that brand, and maybe the industry as a whole, so you were making it work. Now there are brands like NYX, Lancome and Sephora that have shades that are deep enough and you don't have to "make them work". I think this is a discussion that dark skinned women should have. I am shade 57 in the Sephora foundation and 540W in Lancome. I have noticed that with darker skinned beauty gurus that there is almost a refusal to wear the correct shade if it is deeper than what they are used to wearing (not mentioning any channel names because I don't want to get you in trouble). Like Mocha may have been the deepest shade that a company made and now they have Expresso but there are gurus who are the shade Expresso but keep wearing Mocha in their videos. You guys fought to get these companies to make deeper shades and then some of you don't want to wear them. It's refreshing to see someone say "I am Expresso" and not try to make a lighter shade work and blame the off color on their lighting.

You win the comment section. Because eeeeeeeverything you said is truuuuuuue. Some of these shade probably all I made work and honestly I was done making it work a year ago. If we don’t use we will lose it. I will never try to make it work ever again. Everrr

Wow. As a fair medium skinned person in an Asian country, trying to find the right shade is only difficult because of too many options, although the undertones is a factor, too. But now that you and Ohemaa point out a certain issue when regarding the side effect of too many options now available for dark and deep skins, it opens up a very human issue when something lacked before, then suddenly a boom had happened and it caters to so many people, especially those who had been put aside or are an afterthought. It breaks my heart but I have hope because dark and deep skin get to experience having too many options and don't have to settle for less anymore.

@@Ohemaa I'm with you. If a brand doesn't have my shade then I don't buy from that brand, and I don't buy anything else from that brand either. I'm not buying a lipstick because it happens to be something I can wear when a company won't invest that money into expanding their foundation products. I do think that we as brown skin and dark skinned women need to have the difficult conversation of do we like our skin color.

I am amazed to see the number of foundations that you have. There was a period of time where I couldn’t find a foundation my shade. I went from having one foundation to four which is amazing. Finally the beauty industry is taking richer skin tones into consideration.

I have way more foundations than I need at the moment but when the shades started to go deeper I lost my mind lol. For years I only had that one mac shade nw55 which was the only shade readily available. Now I have a plethora of foundations I can choose from and I just can't help myself lol. Also when I find something I love I have to buy at least 2 more. It's the backups that are the culprit for me as well.

I have that issue too. Anything that is made with deeper skin tones in mind I want to buy. Especially if it's a bronzer or an eyeshadow or highlighter palette made specifically for Black and brown people (think Jackie Aina palette, Huda nudes eyeshadow palette, the entire Mented cosmetics brand etc. 😅)

Range Beauty changed their products and it's even better!!! I've never bought foundations before so I was scared, but I found my perfect shades from them. I'm so glad they do samples lol

Thank you so much for this, I’m just like you where I tend to be in between shades as well. Sometimes the second to last shade is to light and the last shade is too deep. I mostly end up mixing to get my perfect shade. I love all your videos for giving me a deeper insight on deeper shades, keep the content coming 😘

This was helpful because you are my shade match. I have Fit Me in 380, 375, 370 and I tried to find those Elf products but could not. I did find the the Camo concealer in the darkest shade was too red. So if you do this with your concealers, I am tuning in.

I need to do this Sooooo Bad! I remember when I was so excited to have 3 foundations that matched. Well maybe I can do it, I definitely know that I have foundations that I will never use again. And I definitely have foundations that have expired. Okay, I’m inspired, I will get rid of some, I just repurchased the Sephora Collection Matte Perfection foundation, so I can declutter the old one that’s over a year old. Got to start somewhere!

I didn’t think of it until I read your reply, but it took a while for me to learn what my undertone is. And that neutral can go either way! So there’s a lot of foundations that are not my shade. Those are the ones I said I will never wear again. I can find myself back to those 3 before I know it. Lol

Great video! But for Maybelline I find that the numbers of the foundations are not equivalent to their other foundations. I’m shade 105/101 in the fit me matte foundation but shade 110 in the fit me luminous foundation. And 003 in the superstay stick and 010 in the superstay foundation..

The fullest coverage foundation I have ever encountered is the Juvia’s Place I am magic. The thickest concealer is fenty. Those can help.

I am 54 years old and I have dark circles and bags around my eyes and they deep. I use color corrector such as Kevyn Aucoin as sometimes I use p.louise baseic in the color orange. Your natural undertone always looks very red on your videos but you seem to tend towards more golden undertone foundations that don't seem to match as well as the redder ones. Is that to balance your natural undertone out or is it just the camera picking up your skintone more red than it truly is?

I love Fenty but I’m done trying to find my shade too red for my undertone. I stick with Juvia’s Place 140 that’s my perfect match. I’m trying out Nars, too faced and mented foundations. Once I find my perfect match and foundation I stick to that 💚.
