I’m so proud of SWE with how this turned out. Izzy (YamatoSFX) and Carrie (xbubblemunkyx) have been working on this for a literal year. A YEAR. Carrie learned to edit this from scratch, they went through draft after draft, and... I’m so proud of them.

Sky High actually is very similar in premise to My Hero Academia when you think about it. High school for future heroes, protagonist who originally has no powers and is looked down on for it but has a good heart and gains super strength, universe's equivalent to Superman used to attend the same school. They even both have a brooding rival/friend with fire powers and a pretty nasty father.

The SWE version of All Might is going to make Stain more interesting to adapt in.

The Lanfeust verse has a unique approach to magic - everyone has one power but needs to be within an area surrounding a special priest/sage to be able to use it. Anyone who strays too far can't use their powers at all. The MC had the good fortune of always having the local sage accompany him (which did mean his village was left with no sage tho). The VIP treatment reason was twofold. One was the MC's party was investigating a holy relic that shouldn't fall into the wrongs hands, and the other reason was both the sage's daughters were in love with the MC and one of them was his fiancee (the other was a girl who wouldn't give up).

Honestly, the big difference to me between this and Joyride is what they choose to focus on. Joyride focuses more on comedy than a narrative. While it has a narrative, a lot of it is very random and disconnected from the source material, best evident in how the characters are portrayed, such as Iida being the traitor while pretending to be mentally challenged, Midoriya being kind of a dumbass that was somehow brought back from the dead, Uraraka being a lot more malicious and a bitch overall, and the whole of Levity Chicken. SWE focuses more on the narrative than on comedy. It still has comedy obviously, but it instead focuses on a more cynical and realistic version of the source material, again, best evident in the characters. Inko is a lot more affected by Hisashi's neglect and having to raise Izuku alone, being more defensive of him but also turning to drinking. The years of bullying and negative stigma have left Izuku a nervous wreck with a lot more insecurities that he has to suppress. All Might isn't this beloved paragon but is rather seen as a relic of an old age and is a lot more jaded as a result. Bakugou is more subdued in his bullying but even more disturbing in the process, like with the rabbits. The characters feel a lot more realistic due to the circumstances their world has. One focuses on creating a humorous story, the other focuses on breaking down and reconstructing the original story.
