They lied to you, it was the companies responsibility to "call before you dig" the reason he even paid some money is because he knew he was in the wrong. Any company that does any kind of digging knows they're supposed to call a utility company before digging. If I was you, I would make them pay you the full amount of the bill, because they're at fault.

@@haikarawalker6996 I worked for Dominion Energy, we couldn't dig anywhere without calling Ms Utility first, it's written on their trucks, and stickers everywhere saying it, all electric companies have to do it before they dig. @@mozeytown My friend lives in Texas, and we had a similar situation 3 months ago - this is a case in Texas too. They just straightt up lied to Sweat, so they wouldn't be held accountable. The one that is legally obliged to call 811 in before the job, is the Employee who is going to be digging - not the customer that called for said help. For what it's worth, the customer has every right to not know what the heck 811 is, because that line is used mostly only in the Industry, rather than by private people. *I said "we" because I was visiting him at the time. Difference for us, was that they cut 2 Lines we had - 1 for the Internet, and the other was some old non-essential sh_t that wasn't even connected to anything anymore. *Sorry if you got this notif 3 times, my PC froze when I was writting it, and after I noticed it posted the reply 3 times. I had something similar happen a few days after my vacation; The city came out to work on the road and put in a new sidewalk as part of an innitiative to revamp the city. They knocked down my cable line for my business and then tried to blame me for the fact that the cable was too low when I clearly stated that I didn't put in the cable; the internet service provider did. And so I ended up having to pay for the damages to my cable and pay for them to run a new line because the city outright refused to do anything about it. Currently considering moving to a new city.

this is one of this things you learn to do because you've ran into the problem before. a weird aspect of maturity is to know to call 811 before major yard work being done. (i didn't know that until maybe a few months ago).

I got a tow recently when my alternator died and they didn't use a flatbed tow they used one that suspends only the top half of the vehicle. When they were backing the car into my carport the metal from the lift gouged my driveway even though I yelled at the guy to stop. When he got out he said "oh I didn't hear you". Then the boss on duty was like " ya that happens all the time, we aren't liable for that". They never even paid half.
