The Saab Bofors Dynamics-produced Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle or MAAWS stands as a highly versatile, man-portable anti-tank and anti-structure weapon system. The most modern variants fielded by Swedish rifle companies have been fitted with the Swedish Aimpoint sighting system. The Gustaf M4 anti-tank weapon system, can be fired from the standing, kneeling, sitting or prone positions, and a bipod may be attached in front of the shoulder piece. An operating handle called the "Venturi lock" is used to move the hinged breech to one side for reloading. The Carl Gustaf Recoilless Rifle is renowned for being one of the loudest weapons on the battlefield. Because of these features, the Carl Gustav gun is defined as Swedish punch.

Trained and used with the previous M/48 during service 1986 in Sweden, and also the Swedish K, Kulsprutepistol. The GRG as we called the M/48 is a formidable weapon. But these guys are probably beginners, we reloaded in a matter of maybe 3 seconds.

Swedish army adopted the first version of this rifle as early as in 1948. Was originally known as the Carl-Gustaf m/48. It was the end result of a whole slew of recoilless AT-rifles developed during WWII.

If you have a cold the snot squirts out of your nose when you fire this bad boy :) You use both ear plugs and ear protection headset or what you call it when using it at least in training. I remember as a shooter when the plug was loose in the ear protection next to the barrel without me noticing, and the pain and shock I felt was the worst I ever experienced, I rolled around on the ground screaming in panic.

I think its set at 12 shots per day unless its been reduced further since my last time of using the weapon in 2003, being within 25 meters of the weapon. This means full sized grenades. We also had 9mm and 20mm variants for practice use. My personall record though was 50 full zised grenades during 1 day when first training with a new platoon, reason being that for some reason i was the only 1 who had prior experience with the weapon and our training officer (a major that did not want to return allreade requsitioned ammo) just winked at me and my loader and said you count the shots yourself :)

Best time in the Army Doing range coverage as a medic Ronnie rotten Spiv And myself At the end of the day the "hard Corp" unit asks us if we want to fire the Carl G So Ronnie Rotten (x trade infantry anti-tank) steps up They give him a bunker about 500m out Spiv is loading for him And (as usual) he puts the round right through the fucking window As he passes the Carl G over he tells Spiv "base of that lone tree at 7 o'clock to the target" The range officer gives Spiv the same target And he puts the round through the fucking door So now its my turn and the grunts are pissed at us Everyone is watching They give me a 1/4 on exposed APC WAY out at 700m I can't see the target worth shit and I'm giggling like an idiot Ronnie rotten is whispering in my ear I put the sight on the base of the tree and then move the point of impact onto the target...add a touch of elevation (pretty much off the edge of the scope sight) and let fly Nailed it on the drive wheel, track flies about 10 feet in the air (sure ain't doing that twice) We walked off the range with a "ya....if you guys ever get in the real deep shit....just call the medics to bail you out....ok?"

LOL. Can't really compare the CG to a Javelin. Javelin is a long range missile with top down attack while the CG is a short-mediium range AT grenade. You can get one CG with around 50 rounds of the most advanced ammunition for ONE Javelin launcher with ONE missile. Me and my gunner could unload 6 rounds on two targets at 180m in 39 seconds.

The CG is not meant to be used against tanks theese days. What it does offer though is versatility, artillery support on the squad level. Anti armour rounds that will deal with anything short of a modern main battle tank, Illumination, smoke and what i think is most usefull antipersonell explosive that can either be set to airburst at a set distance or impact, makes a deadly effect on just about all "soft" targets

No it is not names after Karl X Gustav, it was named in honor of the then 2 year old prince Carl XVI Gustaf now King of Sweden. Any "Facts" video on this weapon that don't get this right simply don't have their facts straight. So if you get that wrong what else is wrong, you simply can't be trusted if you don't even know where the naming came from.
@kebrl
@kebrl Ай бұрын
If you're going to be correcting someone on the internet, then you'll first have to double check your own"facts", otherwise you will look like a huge idiot. Well done 👏 Actual facts: Carl Gustaf is named after Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori, the (now closed) weapons factory where the Carl G was initially manufactured. The factory was named after the city Carl Gustafs Stad (part of modern-day Eskilstuna) which in turn got it's name in 1659 when it was granted city status by none other than king Karl X Gustav.

Mmm, it's cheap, it is nowhere near as effective as a Javelin system, nowhere near, but it is a whole lot cheaper per round, and let's face it the infantry are cheap and easy to replace, so why not give him a system that most western armies stopped using in the nineteen eighties. After all using out of date weapons doesn't seem to bother the Russians does it?

The fuck are you talking about? It's still widely used by almost all western countries. A weapon doesn't go out of date until it stops working against contemporary threats. Is the M2 machine gun out of date? A hundred year old gun still in action because it works.
